Very excited to present a preprint of the first chapter of my thesis, which focuses the end of the LGM (Ice age / Last Glacial maximum) in Europe, and specifically the post-LGM Balkans.

With the amazing new research from @trevorcousins_ and @RegevSchweiger pointing in the direction of complex speciation between Chimps and Humans, there has been quite a bit of interest in this topic online I recommend those interested read Patterson 2006 reich.hms.harvard.edu/sites/…
The key argument we are making is that we can reliably estimate great ape effective population size history (taken as the inverse of the coalescence rate) as anciently as ~10 million years ago, using just PRESENT DAY diploid sequences. This figure shows inference from PSMC...2/n

7000 years ago, during the Holocene Humid Period, when North Arabia was grassland, herders constructed over 1,000 rectangular structures in the region. Known as 'mustatils,' these contain the remains of sacrificed animals, particularly cattle.

New DNA data from France (Isturitz and Ormesson) reveal an unexpected pulse of east-to-west gene flow during the Gravettian period, showing that these HG populations were not isolated genetic groups separate from those in Central and Eastern Europe, but that they traveled and interacted across long distances. Early Gravettian genomic data from Western Europe reveal population movements before the LGM science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

申込みフォームのURL forms.gle/QEjVRBQNsTQrBvjt7 趣旨、登壇者は以下の通りです。

I love papers where researchers do this kind of meticulous but "boring" work that benefits the whole field. About 1 in 3 gene-trait links from transcriptome-wide associations studies (TWAS) give false signs of association. TWAS is a popular method that aims to predict the influence of DNA variants on gene expression activity. The authors cleverly used people who carry broken or duplicated copies of a gene, where the true direction can be inferred. doi.org/10.1038/s41588-026-0…

I tried and got a similar model as Hajdinjak, that fits quite well. However (currently) fails when adding other ENA groups; Onge or Papuan have some unaccounted BK affinity, but also do not pass as sister on the admixed branch leading to Tianyuan. Same for Jōmon or DevilsCaveN.

Even though the title of @mathiascurrat and Excoffier 2004 is wrong their models got a lot right and are actually very revealing about the nature of Sapiens expansion into Eurasia and mixture with Neanderthals #DNA #history #neanderthals #evolution #rangeexpansion
