Imagine going up 1-0 in a World Cup Semi Final in the 55th minute against the Best Player of All Time & thinking you can park the bus for 40+ minutes.
What did you think was going to happen? Negative choices invite negative consequences.

1. Argentina were not creating much to warrant shifting to 5 at back
2. Tuchel even had time to ditch the disastrous idea of 5 at back as Argentina were creating chances even before the equaliser
All in all those are the worst in-game changes that you will see. Sold the match.

0 minutes for Kobbie and leaving your best box defender at home when you plan to shut up shop for the back 30 of every game. What a joke.

The minute Konsa came on for Gordon, Argentina had free reign without fear of the pace threat on Englands left side, started doubling up with De Paul and Montiel (I believe) to get crosses in and work England, and it was so obviously over. One of the worst individual subs ever.
No Maguire, no Hall, no Trent & no Wharton is where I'm lost for answers, they just seem such obvious picks for depth & different dynamics.
Hall - different ball at feet LB to NOR, technical first / over-lapper to work with Gordon/Rashford
Trent - game breaking FB + just better alternative to any other RB bar James
Maguire - fit, good, great season, monster in both boxes, leadership, played in a final, 'character' & still GOOD
Wharton - completely different to mainoo / rice, splits lines, can accelerate everything through the thirds & will be even better pushed up as a 8 vs low blocks when we struggle to break them through outside
Doesn't want wing-fielders in the squad, he wants balance. Under Tuchel we've seen him use a basic 4-3-3 which just forms two wide triangles, a base of 3 build-up players & 1 sitter to anchor. Feels like he's aimed for natural width-holders, natural 8s and nothing in-between that will disrupt the balance of the midfield and width. Seems like he's favoured versatility defensively to cover across positions and then natural wide players & different dynamic of 10s [Rogers + Jude]. Not over the moon with the squad, I think there's some poor decisions esp in the second string / depth but I sort of understand.

Arsenal getting huge game changing and title changing decisions in their favour every week, without a single red card or penalty given against them all season yet football fans in this country only care about Manchester Utd winning 3 points in a dead rubber.

This goal was scored earlier this season - identical situation to the Mbeumo handball shout on Sunday.
Howard Webb said the Mbeumo decision was wrong. Guess what he said about this one?

So to break it down...
- Rules correctly applied as they are written
- Uproar from everyone purely cause it goes Utd's way
- PGMOL boss changes his own interpretation of the law cause of the anti Utd uproar
Every year the interpretation of something changes with Utd involved
Replying to @AnnieEaves
Fully agree and the same Howard Webb was happy with this identical handball earlier in the season skysports.com/football/video…

Just like Shearer, his view completely changes because it’s Manchester United.

Gary Neville believes Raya was fouled but his comments about this incident at the start of the season were very different...
"The goalkeeper has got to be stronger. I think he will complain that he was fouled. He’s got a player in front of him, there’s a lot of pushing and shoving going on. I just think your goalkeeper has to be stronger."

VAR made the right decision there, but the consistency in this league is all over the place.
Different decisions and rules every week.

Arsenal have scored from many of their corners for committing that exact foul West Ham have just been punished for.
Embarrassing to say the least.

I’m still so mad about that Gabriel incident yesterday because it’s the most straightforward decision in football and yet they still get it wrong and then they’ll come out with some ridiculous ‘explanation’ for their own incompetence.

Match Officials Mic’d Up is finally available & it fully demonstrates the hypocrisy in play between the Amad non-penalty & the Harry Maguire red card.
Same action, polar opposite decisions - both are upper-body/arm contact in the penalty area. Truffert’s is minimised as “just a hand on the shoulder.. not sufficient.. nothing significant.. goes down very easy.”
Maguire’s identical incident is maximised as “not challenging for the ball at all.. clearly reaches out.. holding offence.” This isn’t a “judgment call” grey area. The same officials applying laws like a roulette wheel.
Maguire’s called it a fucking joke.. & with this audio finally available, turns out he was bang on. Who’d have thought they would proved him right?

This is the problem. Every single person knows the decision not to award a penalty to Amad last night was poor and incorrect one. But instead of calling it out we get things like this. Manchester United haven’t been a title threat in 13 years. It’s time to get over childish bias.

Stuart Atwell was absolutely petrified of the media response if he gave Utd a 2nd penalty and VAR wanted to support their colleague on the field rather than give the right decision. The arrogance of officials is something that needs addressing, I understand it’s a hard job but they’re deciding games every week more than the two teams on the field.
