Three new pieces in The Journal of Wordplay including a poetic puzzle I've been working on with my professor on-and-off for a year! Find it on pages 30-34 here (for best results, print out if you can):

I usually just let ghosting editors ghost and log it as a rejection, but a few days ago I shot out some passive-aggressive emails to places that never replied and as a result just broke my record for longest elapsed time between submission and rejection (2 days after this reply)
In retrospect I think when I posted this people thought I was talking about the shadows but I was talking about the lizards
Never mind! Found it. I am a good Searcher

I think some people (those who see everything through the lens of the modern horror genre?) don't really *get* the Twilight Zone, or try to evaluate it on criteria it was never aiming at. This is very much not the vibe!---even of the episodes that *are* intentionally creepy

My profile pictures have ranged from "Odilon Redon pencil sketch of an egg in a cup" to "professional author photo of my real human face" and not one of them has ever even remotely approached how I perceive myself (I do not perceive myself, I refuse)
(okay okay I know he never actually said it in the show but) why is Ensign Chekhov unloading office furniture at my university?
Even more galling than realizing you've unconsciously plagiarized a turn of phrase from a Great is looking back on old poems, written years apart and with no initial intention of ever being next to each other on the page, and realizing that you have reused the same end rhymes
One of my favorite poems I've written. I was deeply moved by Rhina Espaillat's comments on it at the reading.
You watch—it’s more than time you tell. You’ve taught
me how to spring ahead, though I fall back;
to wind against the wind by changing tack;
that bearings must be smooth; that seas are not;

Before I saw this I was really worried I was going to get to the end of the day and never see a charming bear carved underneath a Latin inscription on the side of an academic building, but, whew!---What a relief!
