This is really poor by @FA. The governing body is supposed to protect players. It should be disputing this regulatory commission verdict by members drawn from the FA judicial panel. Max Dowman could have suffered a bad injury to his standing leg from a dangerous challenge which went unpunished. Arsenal 16-year-old shouldn’t have reacted but his frustration was understandable. Some other players might have rolled around and ensured a bad challenge was punished. Dowman didn’t. He doesn’t stay down. The FA should have shown some understanding towards Dowman. Instead, it has suspended him for three games. FA priorities all wrong: tolerating a poor challenge and some weak refereeing but punishing a kid who objected to a bad challenge that could have dealt him a serious injury. Protect players. #AFC

I think it’s about more than the red. Arteta probably saw this as Max’s tournament - it was likely a big part of the club’s plan to develop him this season and I’d imagine Max had been told that.

UAE bots are out in force, spreading their false narratives.
The terrible financial state of English clubs is nothing to do with a “red cartel”. It’s because non-commercial clubs like Man City / Chelsea artificially inflated the market and the rules are too crap to address it.
Silva, Tevez, Toure, Zaboleta, Otamendi, Aguero, Milner, Joe Hart, Nasri, Walker, Mahrez, Sagna, Adebayor, Clichy.
All made TOTY during that period at least once.
The last EIGHT were in TOTY for other clubs and then instantly bought by City.
And then there’s the next 8 years.

So, I asked Grok how many City players on average from 2008 to 2018 made Premier League Team of the season, and the answer is 1.3 and how many Players of the season in that time, and the answer is 1 - Vincent Kompany who cost 6 million in 2008. Merson is the worst pundit on TV
Arteta just bought a dog and hired a pickpocket
I watched the F1 film with Brad Pitt the other day, and there’s a moment where his character asks to add something to the car that isn’t really in the rules. The FIA punishes it, but the team can still race with the earlier car. It made me think.
In F1, the best teams live at the edge of the regulations. Sometimes the FIA allows what they’ve found, and sometimes it says that goes too far. Occasionally the rules are rewritten afterwards.
Now, City. I’m not defending them. A commission found they entered into sham agreements and broke the spending limits. A sham is an arrangement that isn’t what it claims to be, so that’s a different thing from using a gap nobody had spotted.
City deny it and will appeal. But I find it useful to ask/reflect on how people inside the club see it.
From their point of view, PERHAPS they believe they were doing what elite competitors do: looking at the rules, finding the limits, challenging interpretations and moving faster than the regulatory system.
From the outside, you might look at that and say, “That’s cheating.” From inside the organisation, they might say, “We found something nobody had thought of.”
If you believe you’ve found a way to bring money in, more or less within the rules (and the commission said it was not in the rules and it was cheating), you might tell yourself you’re just being a sharp competitor.
We are all asking “did City cheat?”. But I find this question interesting too: “how did City come to believe they weren’t?”
And understanding a mindset, or trying to, isn’t excusing it.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Manchester City were found guilty of 114 out of 115 charges by an independent commission. The comparison made is not in the same ball park to the level of rule breaking Man City have committed.

Gabriel drags Ballard down in Sunderland’s penalty box and Arsenal get a penalty for it.
What do you reckon the reaction is then? I think X goes fucking ballistic with brainwashed people saying how right they were about Arsenal cheating. I think you’d be one of them.

Arsenal have pushed the limits of physicality in set pieces. They do that on purpose and they escaped penalisation because they did it well (i.e. with mind paid to those limits).
Watch your team. Watch everyone else. They do it too. A lot. We’re just better at it.
If McDonalds served you a carrot bag instead of a Big Mac, would you be happy if the other people on the restaurant called you insane for asking for the burger you ordered? 😂
