Went to see a very good and important play on Wednesday evening. Wrote about it, in London context, yesterday: onlondon.co.uk/__trashed-12/
Why on Earth are they still droning on about the ULEZ? Even @JamesCleverly thinks it’s ’done its job’ (his words on @TimesRadio).
Our Islington crowd wasn't very happy when @alexgeorgiou pointed out that ULEZ was just a money-making scheme...
They have caused a lot of trouble and confirmed how lawless and selfish a lot of cycling in London is (showing signs of becoming a significant political issue too): onlondon.co.uk/londons-trans… @LonTravelWatch @LondonAssembly #cycling #transport #london
Oh, but Fraser, "Nige" says "the Crime survey for England and Wales is based on completely false data" and "Nige" talks "common sense". Hadn't you heard? #sarcasmalert
The new crime survey is out - the "Lawless Britain" picture in full
- Violence at lowest since records began in 1981
- Corroborated by hospital figures for knife wounds
- Robbery: record low
- Overall crime 78% below 1995 peak.
- Shoplifting up

My latest On London Extra considers deep and revealing new analysis for @IPPR about attitudes to rejoining EU as they apply across London boroughs and seats. Plus reaction to Andrew Boff leaving the Tories, Greens' self-destruction strategy and more: davehillonlondon.substack.co….
Only Russia & Belarus aren't in ECHR. Tories want to join them, which, says @AndrewBoff, is why he won't be considered as their mayoral election candidate. That's another bunch of Londoners turned off by the Tories, currently polling at 16% in the capital bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq78…

NEW. London TravelWatch was established by Parliament to represent all London’s transport users. It has just demanded a halt to new floating bus stops until cyclists can be made to stop ploughing through Zebra crossings.

Latest on London Extra features early reflections on, and reactions to, the pretty extensive new powers over licensing in the capital coming the Mayor's way on 3rd November. Plus chat about mayoral candidates and more: davehillonlondon.substack.co… #london
Festus should be included on the Conservative mayoral candidate shortlist along with @AndrewBoff, @challoner_alex & @JamesCleverly. All have something distinctive to offer & the Tories, for their own sakes, need to be seen by Londoners to be having a constructive, honest debate.
My latest True London podcast conversation is with Tim Donovan, who when he was BBC London's political editor, covered even more mayoral elections than I have. We talked about whether Sadiq K will run again and who might be on the ballot paper: youtube.com/watch?v=Y9SzaVEu…

Gentleman (I use the term loosely) tells me to go back to my country at Northwood station because asked him to turn his music speaker down that the whole station could hear….
I politely tell him THIS is my country.
Britain we are better than this🇬🇧
Sadiq Khan to get the "strategic" licensing powers he was promised, effective from 3 November: onlondon.co.uk/mayors-wide-r…. More and lots of discussion to follow. #london @JamesCleverly @SadiqKhan @LondonAssembly @FestAKINBUSOYE @challoner_alex @AndrewBoff @sarahjolney1 @robblackie
I've argued that problematic implications (including protecting vulnerable people) of having perhaps 400,000 unauthorised migrants in the capital need to be addressed - and that Boris Johnson when Mayor had one of the better ideas for doing it. Gasp. davehillonlondon.substack.co…
He's right to condemn Reform. I look forward to him also condemning @CPhilpOfficial for his Reform-like rhetoric about British people born overseas not really being British. London voters would like that too.
The comments made by Reform UK councillors are abhorrent.
The narrative from Reform is less and less about low taxes, less regulation, smaller government etc and more and more about race and skin colour.
There will be plenty of voters and people who defected to Reform who will see these comments and be disgusted. This is not what they were promised and it is not what they want.

My column this week on how Sagal Abdi-Wale won the by-election as a locally rooted candidate born 4000 miles away from St Pancras. Will Badenoch's challenge to ethnonationalism see Restore + Reform influencers step up attacks on her own Nigerian heritage?
