My article for @edu_equal in today's @IrishTimesOpEd:
"When it comes to education, Ireland remains a theocracy masquerading as a republic."
Irish education is an outlier in the developed world. It's time calls for reform moved onto the political agenda.

"The multiplicity of languages spoken by many of the foreign-born recruits provides the Defence Forces with major advantages, especially when on overseas missions as they can be used instead of civilian UN translators."

An important (but also very entertaining) children's book launches in Dublin on Tuesday. It tells the story of an opted out boy and it tells it sensitively and with humour. If you can go, go! jamesjoyce.ie/events/classro…

This is essential listening for every Irish citizen & voter ahead of the International Security Consultative Forum.

"The deal with Ireland is “just one of those open secrets. I’m not sure how many ordinary people know about it. Armed forces people certainly do”."
Irish skies are protected by the UK's RAF, not the Irish Air Corps. Why won't the Government admit it?

“There’s nothing that provokes Vladimir Putin more than weakness”
Prescient interview indeed…
@GeraskoLarysa @LMiculet @defenceforces @GCraughwell
"Because we didn't want to, quote "provoke Vladimir Putin," By showing weakness we provoked Vladimir Putin...I was deeply disappointed in the United States of America when they (Ukraine) begged us for defensive weapons." I miss John McCain. He screamed to #ArmUkraineNow
Multiple incursions from Ukraine into Russia's poorly defended Belgorod region - a classic diversion to unbalance Russia (& the Putin regime) and force it to redeploy troops far from the front lines in Donbas. Can't be long now until Ukraine's much-anticipated counteroffensive 🤞
"When I speak to Ukrainians now, here’s the peace plan: “Russia, get out of my country. Bring your war criminals for accountability to international justice. And give Ukraine the right to decide its own destiny and its own security.”"
100% @ThomasByrneTD - peace is up to Russia.
We must listen to the people of Ukraine and respect what they say on ending Russia’s illegal and unjustified war against them.
Proud to stand strongly with Ukraine in a debate with Clare Daly MEP on @RTEUpfront last night 🇮🇪 🇺🇦
Human activity is having a catastrophic impact on life on our planet. Climate change, endless population growth and unsustainable land, water & energy use are causing a 6th mass extinction of innumerable species. A concerted effort is needed to restore nature & halt this decline.
According to World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Living Planet Report 2022, monitored populations of vertebrates (mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish) have seen a 69% drop on average since 1970

Interesting submissions in the pre-trial motion against the proceedings being brought by Senator @GCraughwell to examine the lawfulness & constitutionality of alleged 🇮🇪/🇬🇧 defence arrangements. The State has raised two key arguments in its defence.

This is only about saving face. No credible case can be made that the examination by a court of an alleged defence agreement, the broad scope of which is already public knowledge, presents any such threat. The State cannot expect the courts to take such a claim at face value.
