Just a tip for the YNs out there, any time you find yourself *for any reason* typing up a wall of text to send a woman just delete it and set down your phone and walk away and give yourself the gift of having one less cringe moment to regret back on in five years
Follow-up to prior tweet. She responded to my friend this morning and he sent her one final text. Unfortunate with how things turned out but if she’s not genuinely attracted, what else can he do?

re-reading gideon lewis-kraus’s feature story “sand castles” on @NewYorker. so many great details. the AI supply chain becomes a breathing, moving, growing beast, something so visceral and material. one detail i can’t stop thinking is: one in forty-six babies in taiwan is born to a tsmc employee (?!?!) next year’s goal: convince a magazine or foundation to fund my tsmc tradwife story. link: Computer Chips Are the Most Magnificent Things Humanity Has Ever Made newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

Liberals do this thing where, if an argument can be construed as racist or sexist or homophobic or transphobic, they treat their outrage as a rebuttal. They just act appalled, throw in a swear word, and never actually address the claim.
What in the fuck is this.

Many conservative evangelicals have defended Samuel Sey the illegal immigrant Ghanian and said he should be brought back to America. They've said this is a terrible injustice and that because he is a Christian, he should be brought back to America. Nothing about this makes any sense logically. After all, what does his presence within the borders of the United States have to do with him being a Christian? He can still be Christian back in Ghana where he is from. The answer is these people cannot distinguish between the United States and the Kingdom of God and think both are more or less equivalent. I wrote about this in an essay which I've QTed. But this has shown more and more just how correct this understanding is. They cannot grasp that the state and one's religion might operate off somewhat different principles, and so to them, it doesn't matter that Sam was here illegally. In their view, because he was Christian and somewhat socially conservative, he ought to be seen as just as American as anyone else and therefore ought to be retained within the United States, because those are the only things that matter and nothing else could be at play. It is extremely strange behavior, but this is how they see the world.
As I’ve argued more and more with these kinds of people and seen how they view the world, it’s not so much that the constitution and the founders were even good people or good government. They’re viewed in many respects in a similar way in which biblical history is seen, they apply the same lens. The founders are seen as similar to how Christians see the Patriarchs, and what they made as being the old covenant. It’s this older, primordial thing that was put in place that is good, but also flawed by human nature and their own sinful desires bleeding in, with things like slavery or racial laws or not having women’s rights, and other things of this but was a shadow of things to come and the fullness of what was to be. Lincoln is sort of like King David, and his Republican Party the kingdom of Israel more or less, but even after that it’s still not the total fulfillment. No, that you don’t get until World War II, where Hitler, who is Satan, is defeated and the Holocaust is something of a Christ to them. Then you get bill Buckley and Reagan, and both of these are sort of like Paul who codifies much more of it and continues the teachings, spreading the gospel of colorblind free market meritocracy and liberal democracy. They see America in the exact same way they see the kingdom of Christ. Open to absolutely everyone so long as you subscribe to the same faith. That’s more or less how they see the world, and where you and I fit in, who are patriots but who do not like many of these things, we are like Judaizers or Jews to them, saying that either it’s only open to a particular people still or that they must at least carry on the old things, and their reaction is similar to if you went into your local church, and told them that animal sacrifice is a good thing and we need to bring it back. With those they interact with who are against America or American traditions and principles entirely, these are like heathens to them. It’s why they call them the pagan right. They cannot hold two things in their mind at one time, and understand that your religion and your nation are under separate principles and operate differently than one another, and they treat their view of nations as dogmatic as they would religion and hold faith in the political system the same way they would God. It explains absolutely everything when you understand this.

Pope Leo just said "For us believers, to fight in the name of religion means attacking religion itself. There is no such thing as a holy war: only peace is holy." I guess we should let them kill us all because the alternative is being islamophobic and that's bad
The journey begun in #Assisi as a shared quest for #peace is, first and foremost, the path of prayer. Prayer may seem weak in the face of the powers of the world, but it is the humble strength of believers. Let us turn to God, the giver of peace, that He may touch the hearts of those who seek war and terrorism. Let us not forget that prayer is never in vain! vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

There are several interesting things about these screenshots from the Allie Beth Stuckey interview. Notice, first of all, that Annie was 30 years old, and she had never had a boyfriend(!), her four older siblings were married already, her biological clock was ticking, and she was getting desperate, and it was her FATHER who encouraged this insane long-distance interracial romance! Second, Sam is forthright that international dating was his intent. The paper trail is thick. Third, notice how there are always excuses surrounding the immigration application period. He loses all of his IDs, Covid has closed the embassy for two years, there was a trip to Disney World 22 years earlier that the authorities didn’t view as legal, etc. But as soon as he’s able to be reunited with Annie, he proposes to her. They had been “dating” virtually for years at that point. It’s illegal to then misrepresent intent by entering the states on a visitor visa.

I had this happen in grade 12 law class. The (female) teacher gave us an essay question on the midterm in which we were asked to decide on a Supreme Court case, based on our understanding of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I got a 0/10, which was very surprising to me. Then it turned out that over half the class had received the same grade. It turned out that she'd treated it like a binary: full marks if you agreed with the Supreme Court's actual decision, no marks if you didn't. The class revolted. We argued with her for most of the period. In the end she relented and agreed to just not count the essay question *at all*, instead of actually grading it properly.
One time in grad school, I couldn't bring myself to lie on a final essay on how to balance Federal budget. I suggested privatizing Social Security and repealing Obamacare The older white woman Boomer prof failed me because I dared to disagree with her.

Look, Brazil has just undergone a communist coup, with everything that entails. The nice version of what comes next is lots of people being locked up. The nasty version is lots of people being killed.

The first time I heard him give a “sermon” I actually felt really bad for him. It’s a profound unkindness to elevate someone beyond their station and then lie to them. It’s the type of practical joke you’d play on an enemy in high school. Then they started trotting him out as their champion for debates and it’s like cmon man 🤦🏻‍♂️
