So Yiyun Li is visiting here tomorrow, but the Daily Iowan decided to interview some random for its ‘Ask the Author’ feature. Highly questionable, cannot condone, would reconsider. dailyiowan.com/2022/09/20/as…

Clearly Netflix can’t afford to pay what the writers are asking for. I mean, nothing indicates austerity and tough economic times like [checks notes] expanding into the restaurant business? #WGA

Me, watching the final episode of Barry and realizing that the new “Max” iPad app leaves up the ‘chrome’ (time, date, wifi strength, battery strength, etc) the whole time.
A good story, inaugurating a good idea for a new literary journal … that’s like getting two tacos.

Now that it’s in my head, I can’t shake it: Stan Van Gundy doing the commentary on Heat - Celtics game sounds almost exactly like Vince Gillgan of Breaking Bad fame.

David Simon, the creator of The Wire, says he’s on strike to protect new generations of writers and make sure they aren’t exploited by studios.
He also explains how studios are cutting jobs to please shareholders and making TV shows almost impossible to run. cc @AoDespair
That multiple sports commentators/journalists have been so dismissive of a possible concussion (aka brain injury) is wild. Kudos to @dpyoung13 for telling the story. (Green also smacked his head hard on the floor, but nobody mentioned a possible concussion then either.)
Lots of people breaking out their brain scanners and mind readers today sfgate.com/warriors/article/…
I really liked reading this piece and maybe you will too?

It’s not every day that you see a 2x NBA MVP get into it physically with a team owner. In a playoff game, no less. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of language gets used in talking about this. “Competitor” is an early betting favorite over “aggressive.”

Still thinking a lot about @erintheswan's fantastic, literary-scifi epic WALK THE VANISHED EARTH, which I read earlier in the summer. Like STATION ELEVEN but with wildness and dislocation in place of community and continuity. Strange, haunting, beautifully written.

Labor of love, six years in the making. MOVEMENT is out now! Raw, vulnerable, powerful stories remixing music and migration remixed. Episode 1 featuring @oddisee, episode 2 featuring @jesusdiazqba. Listen/subscribe at Linktr.ee/movementstories. so much more to come this season!
A totally biased but still valid recommendation: get in on Witness early. bookshop.org/p/books/witness…
