This is Minik. It’s 1897, and in this photo, he’s around 7 years old. But little does he know - His life will soon tragically take a turn for the worse, all because of a North Pole explorer and a New York City museum. A story:

One chart that shows how unevenly the Iran war is hitting Middle East oil producers. Oman and the UAE are coming out ahead, while Qatar and Iraq have seen export revenues fall nearly 50%.

We opened the world's biggest Five Iron Golf in Dubai in 2024. A booming golf market and 110°F/43°C summers made indoor golf a no-brainer. Just two years later, we're opening our third venue in the UAE, this time in Abu Dhabi. And man oh man is she a beauty:

Extraordinary account from Bloomberg of what it now takes to move oil through Hormuz. One tanker captain describes sailing at night with no navigational lights, phones or AIS, hugging the Omani coast under U.S. military protection, and maneuvering around a vessel that had just been attacked. His own ship was later targeted. The risks are so high that crews are being paid multiples of their normal salaries, with one shipowner reportedly offering six months of extra pay for Hormuz shuttle duty. More oil may be getting through, but at very high risk and cost. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Growing up, 7pm New York Yankees games over the summer and 1pm New York Jets games on Sundays were mainstays in my TV rotation. But when I moved to the UAE nearly twelve years ago, a nine-hour time difference made watching my teams from New York nearly impossible. I'm not alone. Many like me have had similiar experiences: we proudly call Dubai home... But we miss our beloved hometown teams. Until now. Dubai Basketball didn't just become ABA League champions (in their second season, no less!). They've become far more than that. They've become the first team that us Dubai residents representing 200+ nationalities - no matter where we come from - can all call our 𝑜𝑤𝑛. With that, it's been nothing short of an honor to help tell this sports-without-borders, from-startup-to-championship-story. It comes out soon, and when it does, you're bound to see sport - and of course, Dubai - like you never have before. Yalla, Dubai. deadline.com/2026/10/dubai-b…

Unreal to watch - in real time - Dubai Basketball become the city’s first-ever homegrown team.

Skip to 0:34 and watch if nothing for Tom Conti’s reaction. Every bit of this is truly unbelievable, in every sense of the word.

Next Polymarket market: “Will the Houthis join the Abraham Accords by 2027?”
‼️ This paragraph from Reuters story on the meeting between US and Houthis stands out: The Houthis told US officials that they had no intention of attacking American vessels or Israeli ships.

Never has sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic on Al Khail FELT SO GOOD
Dubai: Traffic "near DIFC recovered to about 90% of pre-war levels before slipping in August during the school break" "The rebound was slightly more muted around Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina, likely because those areas are more dependent on tourism" bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Producers are running out of good hope…quite literally.
Before I retired in 2024, the “worst case scenario” in the Pentagon for the Middle East was both Straits being closed. It was not even imaginable except in PowerPoint briefs and War College gaming scenarios. Under Pete Hegseth, it has become a reality in less than six months.

(Mildly) interesting equipment at a hotel gym in Altea, Spain: 1) a treadmill seemingly from the communist era 2) a bench for which a protractor was surely used 3) a plate made before 2.5kg plates were standard?
