We opposed privatisation of IDBI Bank
IDBI Bank is not for sale—it is a public institution built on trust, service and national interest.
The Government has assured Parliament that its shareholding will never fall below 51%.
Stand for public banking. Stand for IDBI.
#IDBINotForSale
IDBI Bank is part of India's banking legacy. Its contribution to industrial development, institutional finance and the evolution of the banking sector deserves serious consideration.
A decision affecting its future must consider more than the sale price—it must also consider long-term public interest.
Respect the legacy. Protect the public interest.

When PVT Yes Bank collapsed, Other Public Banks pushed to Save, But IDBI isn't even collapsing , still not merged with any other PSBs! Why selling to Canadian Firm? #StandWithIDBI

PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS: FUNDING NBFC PROFITS WHILE THE COMMON PUBLIC PAYS THE PRICE?
Public deposits. Public banks. But where is the affordable credit for the common public?
We strongly oppose the indiscriminate lending of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) to NBFCs, particularly when PSBs were created to serve the public and contribute to nation-building.
PSBs mobilise low-cost deposits from the public. Shouldn't these funds be utilised more effectively to provide affordable credit to ordinary citizens, small businesses and the middle class?
HOW CAN SMALL BUSINESSES SURVIVE?
When small businesses borrow at 20–35% interest, what profit remains after paying wages, rent and other operating expenses?
How can we expect small entrepreneurs to grow, generate employment and build savings when the cost of credit itself becomes a burden?
WHAT ABOUT THE COMMON MAN?
People pledge their gold to run a small business, pay school fees, arrange a marriage or meet medical expenses. And even small buisness loans ..
Consider a ₹1 lakh loan either gold or any small business loan
- PSB at 9%: ₹9,000 annual interest.
- NBFC at 24%: ₹24,000 annual interest.
- Difference: ₹15,000 a year!
Assuming the full principal remains outstanding for one year.
For a wealthy borrower, this may be just another expense. For a poor family or a small entrepreneur, it can make survival even more difficult.
Not every NBFC charges 24%, and actual rates vary by product and borrower. But shouldn't we question a system in which suitable borrowers may have to pay such a substantial premium for credit?
WHERE ARE OUR BANKING PRIORITIES HEADING?
PSBs are financing large infrastructure projects, acquisition finance and investments linked to instruments such as REITs. These activities may have legitimate purposes.
But what about the other end of the economy—the small entrepreneur, the farmer, the student and the ordinary family?
Repeated mergers have reduced the number of independent PSBs. Small Finance Banks and NBFCs have expanded their presence, while PSBs face increasing business targets and operational pressures.
Now, with further consolidation and privatisation proposals in the debate, we must ask whether the original public purpose of PSBs is receiving the attention it deserves.
OUR QUESTION TO DFS AND PSB MANAGEMENTS
Why should we focus only on the volume of business generated and the profitability of lending while giving insufficient attention to the final cost paid by ordinary borrowers?
If PSBs finance NBFCs, we must examine the entire chain: the funding rate, operating costs, credit risk, intermediary margins and the actual benefit reaching borrowers.
We are not against NBFCs. We are against neglecting affordable direct credit to the common public.
Public Sector Banks need not stop financing infrastructure or NBFCs. But they must ensure that small businesses and ordinary families are not pushed into the background.
Nation-building is not just about mega-projects and large corporate finance. It is also about helping a small business survive, a student continue education and a family meet a medical emergency without falling into a debt trap.
PUBLIC DEPOSITS. PUBLIC BANKS. PUBLIC PURPOSE.
The real question is simple:
Are our Public Sector Banks serving the public to the extent they should—or are we forgetting the common people while chasing bigger business numbers?
