Not every trader who sits on the sidelines is being patient.
Sometimes it’s fear disguised as discipline.
Patience means waiting for your setup. Fear means seeing your setup, knowing it meets your rules, and still being unable to pull the trigger.
The goal isn’t to eliminate fear. It’s to build enough trust in your process to execute despite it.
Learn to recognize the difference.

Real yields adjust interest rates for inflation expectations.
That difference can matter for how investors value long-duration assets and risk. When rates move, ask whether the change is nominal, inflation-driven, or real.

Most traders think they’re managing risk. They’re actually managing it backwards.
They pick their position size first, then try to make the risk fit.
After 16 years of trading professionally, I’ve learned that risk should dictate your position size, never the other way around.
Get that order wrong, and even a good trading strategy can lose money.
Risk first. Size second. Always.
Large trades attract attention, but size alone does not tell you motive or direction.
Ask where the print occurred, what price did before it, and how the market responded afterward. Context turns a print into information.

One thing I’ve learned from teaching traders over the years: the questions people ask often tell you more than their results.
Beginners usually want to know what to trade.
Experienced traders want to know when to stay out.
That shift in thinking changes everything.

Earnings can trigger an immediate gap, but investors may keep repricing new information over the sessions that follow.
Watch whether price, volume, and analyst expectations continue moving in the same direction after day one.

The most expensive trade is often the one you take AFTER a loss.
Not because the setup is bad. Because your decision-making has changed.
You stop looking for opportunities and start looking for ways to get your money back.
That’s when discipline disappears and revenge trading begins.
Your job isn’t to recover the loss. It’s to protect the process that makes you profitable over time.
Before earnings, option premiums can carry elevated implied volatility.
After the event, that volatility can collapse quickly. Direction matters, but so does what you paid for uncertainty before the news arrived.

Today’s Trades of the Day 👇
$CAT
Big gap down at the open, then buyers stepped in fast. Once $CAT stabilized off the lows and started reclaiming, it gave a clean long setup and continued trending higher into target.
$FTNT
Another strong gap-down name that reversed beautifully. After holding the lows and reclaiming, $FTNT gave us a solid long and pushed nicely for target.
Two great examples of why we focus on process over prediction:
let the stock show its hand
wait for structure
manage risk
take the clean move when it’s there.
One of the most expensive habits in trading is needing to be right.
I’ve spent 16 years in the markets, and one thing I’ve learned is that being a good trader has very little to do with how often you’re right.
You can be right 70% of the time and still lose money. You can be wrong more often than you’re right and build a profitable career.
The difference is in how much you make when you’re right versus how much you lose when you’re wrong.
It’s a simple concept. But understanding it can completely change the way you approach the markets.
Trading isn’t a game of being right. It’s a game of making the math work in your favor.
One million shares of a $5 stock and one million shares of a $200 stock represent very different capital turnover.
Dollar volume gives useful context when comparing liquidity across names with different prices.

Most traders don’t fail because of a bad strategy. They fail because they can’t follow a good one.
They know the setups. They understand risk management. But when emotions take over, discipline disappears.
They chase trades, move stops, break rules, and wonder why they’re not consistent.
The market doesn’t reward what you know. It rewards what you consistently execute.
Your breakthrough isn’t another strategy. It’s mastering yourself.

Execution conditions change throughout the session.
The open, midday, and close can have very different volume, spreads, and urgency. Match your order style and expectations to the liquidity available at that time.

Most traders don’t need another strategy. They need to stop sabotaging the one they already have.
You can spend $50,000 on education, learn from the best traders in the world, and have a proven system handed to you.
And still lose money.
Why?
Because knowing what to do and actually doing it are two completely different skills.
The market doesn’t reward what you know. It rewards what you execute.
Your biggest trading edge might just be getting out of your own way.

Another trade called LIVE in the Live Traders room.
Outcome bias rewards bad behavior when it happens to make money.
A poor entry can win; a disciplined trade can lose. Grade the decision before you grade the result or luck will train the wrong habits.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that information alone rarely changes your life. It’s what you do with that information that makes the difference.
You can have the best strategies, the right tools, and all the knowledge in the world, but without discipline, patience, and the willingness to look honestly at yourself, very little changes.
That was one of the biggest themes during our last trading summit. A room full of people from different backgrounds, all coming together to learn, challenge their thinking, share experiences, and hopefully walk away seeing things a little differently.
And that’s what I enjoy most about these gatherings. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs don’t come from learning something new, but from finally understanding something you’ve known all along.
Looking forward to the next one.
