It's publication day for my book, Fortress Power (@UMinnPress). The book is about the weaponization of the built environment, from the early modern bastion fortress to present-day border landscapes and privatized cities. upress.umn.edu/9781517917937…
I had the opportunity to talk to about my book, Fortress Power (@UMinnPress), on the @PennMitchellCtr Podcast.

The primary philosophical influences on the book are Michel Foucault and Paul Virilio. I also engage with the work of @weizman_eyal, Wendy Brown, @AchilleMbembe1, and Étienne Balibar.
My thanks to @irit_katz and @xThomas_Nail for advance praise for the book.
My author copies of Fortress Power arrived from @UMinnPress. I found a spot for them on my bookshelf next to some of the books that have been formative to my thinking.

We don't generally THINK of Los Angeles as a prison town - or a jail town.
But at almost every point in its history, LA has been building or debating whether to build a new jail, again and again and again for 3 centuries.

This must include the Prison Moratorium.
If we’re talking about spending, let’s be absolutely sure that we’re not pouring public dollars into new jail and prison cells and instead invest in what communities need to thrive.
#NoNewWomensPrison
NEW: After @MassGovernor publicly urged lawmakers to return to session and pass a sweeping economic development bill, Senate President Karen Spilka says in statement she is “prepared to call special formal session to get it done.” No word yet from House Speaker @RonMariano

The prison moratorium passed last session, has a wide-ranging support across the state with 100 orgs signed on, and is in the Democratic Party platform. Passing it should not be controversial.
MA says #NoNewWomensPrison. Let's get it done!

I wrote about Massachusetts's proposed prison moratorium.
A bill to halt the construction of new prisons and jails provides a way forward for decarceration.

My review of the new book American Purgatory, by Benjamin Weber, is out in @_inquest_. The book grapples with the questions of how central incarceration has been to US empire, and what international solidarity should therefore look like. inquest.org/cages-without-bo…
