I want to introduce the “Jerry Jones Threshold” for coaching salaries if he won’t go above $13 million.
- 8 out of the 12 coaches have been to a Super Bowl
- 9 out of the 12 have been to a championship game
- All 12 have made the playoffs
Looks like high-paid coaches win a lot. Kevin Stefanski is the only justifiable outlier where I could say Jones would be right in his philosophy, but even he was two time Coach of the Year.

I called the agent of a veteran coach to see if Jerry Jones had even picked up the phone and poked around on him during the Schottenheimer hiring cycle and he laughed and said “Jerry won’t pay 13M and up and that’s the starting point”
It’s well known and well documented just surprised he actually finally said it on record today.
What is the difference between a $2 million a year edge rusher, and a $13 million? They could both be busts, but is spending on a edge rusher worth the risk of potential failure?
