Hi Bruce. Forgive me, I don’t know you. You’re not a subscriber and yet you have an opinion of copy you’ve never read. Why? I have 43 years in MSM; CBC, CTV, foreign bureau and CPAC with @caj awards. How ‘bout you? Sports guy, no?
The Rebel is a blight on this country and any politician who consorts with Ezra and his employees should be shamed, but let's also pay attention to Blacklock's Reporter, which too often is a deplorable publication dressed in fancier clothes

STATEMENT FROM LET ALBERTA DECIDE CO-LEAD KEITH WILSON, K.C. Albertans should welcome any serious effort to get our energy to world markets. But with the October 19 referendum only weeks away, they are also entitled to ask some hard questions about today’s Pacific Link announcement. The first is: why now? Alberta has been seeking tidewater access for decades. This new pipeline was formally referred to the Major Projects Office on July 2. Yet the major announcement declaring it a project of national interest arrives immediately before Albertans make an important decision about their future constitutional relationship with Ottawa. That timing deserves scrutiny. Its Ottawa playing politics to get Albertans to forget about decades of mistreatment and how Canada does not work for Alberta. Albertans should also look carefully at what was actually announced. This is not yet a fully approved, financed or construction-ready pipeline. The current estimated cost is between $35 billion and $44 billion. Taxpayers are now on the hook for the overwhelming majority of the initial ownership interest, while major questions remain about final financing, new BC tolls on Alberta oil, shipper commitments and the ultimate cost to taxpayers. The pipeline comes with many strings attached imposed by Ottawa. The $20-30 billion Pathways carbon-capture project will be another hit on taxpayers. This brings the combined cost to taxpayers of over $70 billion which is the same amount as the total budget for the Alberta Government including health care, education, and social programs. Today’s announcement is significant and I hope the pipeline ultimately gets built. But Albertans should judge it on the facts, not the timing of a press conference. Does Canada still work for Alberta or can Alberta do better? That’s the question that will be decided on October 19. Serious change is needed in the constitutional relationship so that the Alberta Government does not have to spend decades of effort and billions in taxpayer dollars just to get a new pipeline.

Today, PMMC was on Bloomberg expressing optimism that Canada and the US will reach a trade deal. Yesterday, we learned via the WSJ that the PM wants even closer ties with the EU- possibly as an 'associate member'. Should it not concern Canadians or our media, that we learn more from foreign media than our own? Where is the outrage from the Globe, Star, CBC, CTV etc. @acoyne @terrynewman

I joined @NewsHour host @NickSchifrin, with former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and Christopher Sands @uscanada_sands for a wide-ranging discussion on the state of Canada-U.S. relations. We discussed how we got here, the risks of anti-Americanism and a turn toward Beijing, and how Canada can rebuild a relationship that remains fundamental to our economic and national security. Cdn retaliatory tariffs will go in to effect Tues am, likely to be followed by US escalation making the trade war real and devastating for Cdns. That the PM will address the EU parliament before our own is egregious. Parliament needs to be recalled asap, discuss the key points that led to the stalemate, debate impact and next steps.

BC, and therefore Canada, conceded on tariff rate quotas on softwood lumber some time ago. The only issue was what would happen to the $10B in duties held in escrow. If it was an 11th hour revelation to Team Canada that Trump wouldn't return that, we are represented by amateurs.
Replying to @MatinaStevis
USTR tells @AnaSwanson the US had said it would: - eliminate 232 tariffs on softwood lumber entirely - reduce 232s on Canadian autos to 15% - lower the steel tariffs on the majority of Canadian steel exported to the US to 25% under a TRQ - lower aluminum tariff to 25% without TRQ

With only 5 days to go until the 338 tariffs may come in to effect, it appears sides still far apart. Interesting that the only information that Canadians get on where things stand is via the the US Trade Rep.

@bobmackin digs for the records on Liberal fundraisers relevant to this bailout— some of these names may be worth scrutinizing- ‘Speaking of friends, insiders and lobbyists Carney was the featured guest when condo marketer Bob Rennie hosted Liberal fundraisers in February 2025 and February 2026. The latter came the month after Carney went to Beijing and announced a strategic partnership with Communist China. Attendees included a who’s who of top executives from Vancouver real estate players: Aquilini, Concord Pacific, Holborn, Intergulf, Larco, Mosaic, MST, Nch’kay, Onni, Pacific Reach, Peterson, Polygon, Pinnacle, Reliance, Strand, Sutton Group, Thind, Wall and Westbank Also the industry’s lobby group, Urban Development Institute, and media-shy Whitecaps owner and real estate investor Greg Kerfoot. Back in 2014, Rennie famously promoted a $25,000-a-plate luncheon for Robertson’s mayoral re-election campaign. Until 2017, B.C. had no limit on the size of political donations. The co-organizer of Carney’s 2025 and 2026 visits to Rennie? The former deputy head of Robertson’s Vision Vancouver civic party, Duncan Wlodarczak.’
Bob Mackin reports: Duncan Wlodarczak, former deputy head of Gregor Robertson’s Vision Vancouver civic party, co-organized Rennie’s 2025 and 2026 fundraisers for Carney. He is now chief of staff at Onni and chair of the Liberal Party of Canada in B.C. open.substack.com/pub/bobmac…

2% is an amount that was agreed upon in 2014, which we never met. There's been some security inflation since then. This was pointed out to the Liberals. The ask is now 5%.
