6. Tingling in your feet
Pins and needles. Burning. Numbness. Like your feet are wrapped in cotton wool.
Some posts say this is low vitamin B1. That can happen, but it's not the main cause. Low vitamin B12 is a more common vitamin cause. And the big one, the one that should make you sit up, is diabetes.
High blood sugar slowly damages the nerves in your feet. When your nerves stop working, you stop feeling pain.
You step on a pin and you don't feel it. That small cut gets infected, and with poor blood flow it doesn't heal.
Around 85% of diabetes-related amputations start with a foot ulcer. A small sore that nobody felt.
If your feet tingle or go numb, get your blood sugar and B12 checked. If you already have diabetes, check your feet every single day. Look between your toes. Use a mirror if you have to.
Itchy legs, night cramps and heel pain are usually not deadly, but they're worth checking if they don't go away. Swelling, colour changes and tingling are the ones that can point to your heart, your blood vessels and diabetes.
Your feet can't talk, but they can warn you, so look at them.

5. Colour changes in your feet
Look at your feet right now. Are they pale? Bluish? Cold to the touch, even in a warm room?
That can point to poor blood flow. It's often caused by peripheral arterial disease, where the arteries in your legs get narrowed and clogged.
Other signs are:
โข Hair loss on your legs
โข Shiny skin
โข Cuts on your feet that heal really slowly
If the arteries in your legs are clogged, the arteries to your heart and brain might be too. Your feet could be warning you about a heart attack or stroke risk.
A foot that suddenly turns cold, pale and very painful means its blood supply may be blocked. Get help straight away.

3. Foot swelling
A bit of swelling after a long day on your feet or a long flight is normal. Gravity pulls fluid down.
But swelling in both feet that keeps coming back can be a sign of something bigger. When the heart can't pump strongly enough, fluid backs up into your legs. Kidney and liver problems can do the same thing.
Here's a simple test. Press your thumb into the swollen spot for a few seconds. If a dent stays there, tell your doctor.
If just one leg suddenly swells, and it's painful, warm or red, that can be a blood clot. If that clot travels to your lungs, it can kill you. That's not a "wait and see" moment. Get emergency help.

2. Leg cramps at night
Have you ever woken up at 3 a.m. with your calf locked up like a fist? I have.
The internet will tell you this is magnesium deficiency. A big Cochrane review, which pools all the best studies, found that magnesium is unlikely to reduce cramps in older adults.
Most night cramps are harmless. But they can be linked to some medicines, like water pills, and to problems with your nerves or blood flow. So if they're happening a lot, or they come with weakness or swelling, mention it to your doctor.
Don't just keep popping pills and hoping.

Most of the time, itchy legs come from something boring:
โข Dry skin
โข Cold weather
โข Hot showers
โข Harsh soap
Itching that won't go away, all over your body, can sometimes come from the liver. When the liver struggles, bile can build up in your blood, and that can make your skin itch like crazy. Long-term kidney disease can cause it too.
When it keeps going for weeks, when moisturiser does nothing, or when it comes with yellow eyes, dark pee or pale poo, that's when you get your blood checked.
