Heartbreaking to read. This is NOT your fault. And the response comments show how truly valued our amazing members & their EM colleagues are - doing extraordinary work in the most challenging situations to ensure patients get the best care possible #ResuscitateEmergencyCare
As an Emergency Medicine consultant in the NHS, I just want to say, to all of our patients across the UK: I'm sorry. We're really trying, I promise. There's just too much to do. And there are not enough resources in the hospitals or in our communities to satisfy demand.

Am I wrong to be really pissed that a major piece of work on NHS performance, emj.bmj.com/content/early/20… , will be completely overshadowed by all the media attention on Boris Johnson having a bad day?

A&E departments are staffed, skilled, equipped and big enough to (just about) cope with genuine Emergency demand. We cannot handle the volume of non-emergency work that is currently coming in on top of it. System is broken. Urgent solutions needed.

The ED is once again the easiest place in health and social care to access it would appear. Big numbers this weekend. "just to get checked out". Can do this, or covid, but not both.

Emergency departments now able to work efficiently. Redirect to primary care happens. Patient needs specialist opinion - it happens. Patient needs a bed - rapidly admitted. Why did the NHS allow so many to suffer in ambulance queues last winter when this was all possible?

In Norway, Prime Minister Erna Solberg just held a press conference specifically for children. For half an hour, she and her team answered questions submitted by kids across the country. She told them it was normal to be scared but that everything would be okay. #Leadership
