Wait, there was no formal representation from bodies who represent doctors on the panel that wrote these guidelines? The BMA should have been at the front and centre of this. Looks like they need to bin these and start from scratch. @lengreview this is embarrassing.

The proposed protocols, if enacted, would effectively enable the NHS to continue to dangerously use PAs. We are clear - PAs must not assess, diagnose, or manage undifferentiated patients in any healthcare setting. Read the proposals here:

The consultation on clinical protocols for PAs to see undifferentiated patients is published below⤵️
These are loose and unrestrictive, raising safety concerns
Worse, the burden of supervising falls on ST4s+
Doctors, reach out to your royal college and ask them to reject this.

Today I learnt that saying only people with a medical degree should work on doctors’ rotas is an extreme, polarising view 👀
Which is weird because I always thought that should be blatant common sense…
…or else what’s the point of medschool?

King’s College ED openly states ACPs are equivalent to ST3 but I wonder if @RCEMpresident will address this with the same vigour and enthusiasm as that taken when commenting on the BMA’s collaborative article with @Telegraph.

It is NOT elitist to say ONLY doctors should practise medicine
In the same way as it is not elitist to say;
Only nurses should practise nursing
Only dentists should practise dentistry
Only physios should practisephysiotherapy
It is literally doing the right degree for the job

In GP - cases that presented as “simple” symptoms:
“Tummy bug” ➡️ brain tumour
“Runny nose” ➡️ sepsis in newborn
“Bit of a headache” ➡️ meningitis
“Just a little rash” ➡️ skin cancer
I’ve been a doctor for 20 yrs -
**Simple symptoms do NOT equal simple diagnoses**

I don’t who is on the CAP but given the areas in those slides, one would guess RCPsych, RCEM, RCGP, and RCP at a minimum.
I hope these colleges involve their members in this process to ensure they are accurately representing them. Perhaps doctors should be reaching out to them?
If you’re interested in the implementation of the @lengreview ? Have a look at this FOI 👇🏼

Strike fatigue: What is the truth?
When the full pay restoration campaign first started in 2022, there was excitement and buzz. Recently, that novelty has faded but NHSE data shows a clear trend: resident doctors have strike-related absence at similar levels as back in 2023. 1/2

The last strike should not have been cancelled
The government have been acting as if this weak
offer has been accepted.
It hasn't. Vote NO

As an incoming CT1, this deal is essentially offering me an extra £50 a month post tax. This wouldn’t even break even with the amount of my salary I’ve sacrificed to striking over the past 2 years, never mind achieve FPR.
Resident doctors will vote on a transformative offer which will improve pay, working conditions and career progression.
The ballot opens today and closes Friday 26 June.

This is the graph I've been waiting for
The rate of decline from 2008 to 2023 is much steeper than the current rate of restoration
It's going to take 20yrs to get back to FPR if Doctors accept this deal

If the offer gets accepted, and DDRB next year is RPI matched...we will still be 18.4% worse off than in 2008. Why isn't @BMAResidents tell us this?

I hear a lot about strike fatigue but the numbers don't show this.
Are strikes less exciting than in 2023? Sure. Is it frustrating to get paltry offers? Of course.
But doctors are still a force to be reckoned with.
VOTE NO.
Let's keep fighting cuz we still have it in us!

Trusts wont terminate contracts early, they just wont extend them, or put out fewer LED roles the following recruitment cycle. The word 'expected' also doesn't fill me with hope, easily abusable terminology by trusts.
Some LEDs voting for this are turkeys voting for Christmas.

Quite a bit of smoke and mirrors going on with this deal.
I will be voting no.
I advise you to do the same.
