To those clueless: Our pay is significantly < than 2008. Cost of living has exploded. Doctors are leaving in droves. Strikes aim to increase pay, to retain doctors in the NHS to save your lives. Currently, physician assistants earn 10k more than the doctors that supervise them

@JanetEastham To be comfortable saying this on camera ? We know that this attitude will be widespread.
I mislead Pts into believing that I’m a Dr. I do just as good a job as a Dr anyways so why do they need to know that I’m a nurse ?
@theRCN this is DANGEROUS

9 months ago today Isaac died as a result of the actions and inactions of @EastCheshireNHS Macclesfield A&E. They saw him 4 times in 2 weeks and failed to do the one blood test that was indicated that would have saved his life. They haven't apologised. Angry doesn't come close.

- 19yo with disorder that makes him prone to blood clots
- calls an ambulance with symptoms typical of a blood clot in the lungs
- blood test to rule out blood clot not performed
- discharged with antibiotics
- reattended A&E later same day coughing up blood (red flag for blood clot). Discharged again.
- saw GP a week later who sent to A&E as had obvious symptoms of blood clot
- discharged with no investigation for blood clots from A&E again as doctor “forgot” to refer to be admitted for tests
- attended later same day as symptoms worsening. WAS actually admitted but communication so poor and kept in waiting room on a chair after “admission” that he didn’t realise he’d been admitted and went home to sleep.
- died next day at home
His life would have been saved with a simple blood test at any of the FIVE separate encounters with medical professionals.

The more I’ve read this poster, the more I shake my head in disbelief.
This is literally what we are trained to do at medical students & doctors are experts in this.
If your trust needs a poster to remind other HCPs “think safely” - maybe they shouldn’t be diagnosing patients!

🔴 Not having a pop at nurses, but I want to clarify something regarding NURSE CONSULTANTS let loose on patients in the NHS. @benenden_hosp
⭕️ This dude running the Benenden Hospital account thinks that a PhD is equivalent to a medical degree.
⭕️ He said that nurse consultants have the required experience and training to give advice to patients, without providing any evidence of standardised training similar to that of doctors.
⭕️ If I have a PhD in root canal treatment, I cannot claim to be a dentist. It is also misleading to use the title “doctor” in dental practice.
⭕️You can lecture students at uni with a PhD, but not work as a medical consultant/GP.
Thanks for your attention.

When you allow everyone and anyone to diagnose & prescribe? this is the result
PAs (delegated prescribers ) , nurses, physios , radiographers , dietitians, paramedics & OTs , are doing care home rounds and prescribing - without medical qualifications. xitter.cf/medicalmodelbri/status…
🚨 EXC: An over-prescribing epidemic is sending 1,000 elderly patients to A&E every single day - a consequence of a fragmented NHS unprepared for the ageing silver tsunami heading its way as 468k baby boomers turn 80 this year: thetimes.com/article/ddf452b…

I can’t reply to this thread, so I’ll reply here.
@RobSetters - I am actually research trained, as it happens. I have analysed the research presented in the way I have been trained to analyse research.
Please provide me examples showing ACP/ANPs are safe to see UDF pts

ANPs do NOT provide “more time” for GPs @charlottemcardl - they add workload to GPs
Ask any GP if they prefer working in a Practice with 5 GPs seeing their own pts or 2 GPs and 4ANPs who need their supervision for same renumeration- Majority will choose former
Replying to @Saynotoquackery
Guys there’s no I in team - am sure you know! Tired of the constant professional beating. ANPs provide more time for GPs to do what only you can do using the very best skills you have. Nurses are not doctors & don’t want to be. Patients deserve better & good care. That’s it.

A nurse consultant HASN’T been struck off after working hundreds of shifts performing ERCPs , despite not being medically qualified. He told patients that he was a medical consultant . 7 patients died, 58 were harmed .
Are you equally as concerned about this ? #protectnurse

Discovered recently that some councils have added GPS to the buses allowing you to see exactly when one will arrive
Been an absolute game changer. I've got the bus much more often as a result
Fits into what @rorysutherland has said about expectation management

Wow . Have you all seen this ?!
Nurse consultant is the named ‘ consultant’ for a patient yet can’t actually do what a consultant does as it isn’t ‘ within their remit ‘ . Liability sponge Med reg ends up having to take responsibility despite having never met the patient
And another classic example of the nurse ‘consultant’ fiasco. A perfect case for the Doctor Substitution Reporting Portal. Report it here 👇🏼

I would be horrified if my named consultant wasn’t a doctor?!
I’d feel hoodwinked & frightened for my care
Whether this person has been a nurse for 1 yr or 30 yrs makes, has a PhD/CPD etc, makes NO difference
They are NOT doctors!
As a patient, I do NOT consent for this!

This is one of the most carefully written, quietly devastating things you’ll read about the NHS this year.
The only body outside hospitals that could examine and publish how trusts treat staff who speak up closed on 30 June.
Almost nobody noticed.
@GuerrillaCarl has done outstanding work. Read the whole thing.

I’m really starting to question why all your arguments seem to distill down to “let’s pay for everyone except doctors to do the jobs doctors should be doing”
Your argument being lack of doctors, which is rubbish in this country because we have such a surplus we export them.

The term Noctor is far more informative and clarifying than all of the following:
Physician Associate/Assistant
Clinician
Practitioner
Heck, at present it's more informative than Consultant!
Clear concise language easily understandable by the public is important
Noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor noctor... Come for me GMC
Dr Not A Proxy retweeted
The @gmcuk has no duty of care to doctors
The @gmcuk function is to protect the public
All good.
Shouldn’t the GMC be then funded by the public to protect them?
Rather than me paying the GMC?
Genuine question for @TheBMA @RCPhysicians @AoMRC and whoever else represents doctors.
