One hundredth five-star rating on Amazon for Blood Roses at the same time as it breaks into the Top 5 in the Historical Mysteries chart. Book 2, Blood Sacrifice out in November and I reckon it's even better! amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CL925VPZ#S…

So wholesale price is 12.3p/kWh and we pay 26.32p/kWh plus £200 a year standing charge (both GB average). Hmmm.
UK Wind Power has fallen to 19.1GW this morning. With 1.3GW of Solar we are burning 6.7GW of Gas as well as exporting 1.5GW. Hydro is 0.6GW. Nuclear is 5.1GW and the awful Biomass 2.3GW. The price of wholesale electricity over the past 24 hours was £123 per MWh

In 1774, a Scottish mountain was used to weigh the entire planet. And pretty much as a by-product, the people doing it helped invent something you'll find on every single walking map you've ever owned. This is the story of the ‘fairy hill of the Caledonians’: Schiehallion. 1/5

I’m working on an article to explain why I believe the UK and Irish governments are telling households to stockpile water and food that doesn’t require electricity. TL;DR: I believe governments are preparing to prioritise AI data centres over their own citizens. The electricity consumption figures and government policies point to a serious problem. Both countries are preparing households for prolonged power outages while giving energy hungry AI data centres preferential treatment. Are these warnings really about extreme weather, or do governments already know their electricity grids won’t be able to cope with the expansion of AI data centres?
“Be ready by having some everyday essentials… three litres of water per person per day, tinned goods... to last a few days” Speaking to @vicderbyshire, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting details advice to households to be prepared for a “dangerous and turbulent world”. #Newsnight

National Museums Scotland announced it had acquired a rare, 8thC, gold sword pommel #OTD in 2022. A detectorist found it at Blair Drummond, Stirling, in 2019. Encrusted with garnets, it has eyes and a beak on each end. 📸National Museums Scotland

Striking dialogue. The Kripo detective who served in an action group boasting of how he had shot thousands of Jews and had only ever felt the recoil of his rifle and a sprained trigger finger.

Reconstruction mock-up of building of Jedburgh Abbey. An Augustinian house. King David I of Scots (1084-1153) founded a priory here in 1138 and raised it to abbey status in 1154. The brethren may have come here from St Quentin Abbey (France) #JedburghAbbey #HistoryRebuilt

I'm thinking a crowdfunded novella would be fun this year. Who would you like it to be about? 1) Tullus 2) Spartacus 3) Matthieu Carrey 4) Hanno 5) Quintus 6) Completely new character
