Family Medicine matters. People with a consistent provider live longer & better, but 1 in 5 Canadians do not have one. This needs to change.
I'm honoured to be nominated as President-Elect of the @CFPC_e & look forward to serving the CFPC & all Canadians. Members, please vote!

You know what makes me angry?
When I admit a patient with metastatic cancer who’s unlikely to survive… and if that patient had been able to access a family doctor and simple routine screening tests they would have been most likely cured months ago. Now it’s too late.
This happens far too often. Not being able to access care sooner is absolutely killing people. It happens over and over again. It’s pretty pathetic for the billions of dollars we spend on healthcare.

Happy (early) Women Physicians’ Day! 🙏to @CWIMorg #NWT Women Physicians fully closed the gym down Friday night.
This crew helped the territory through a pandemic & the wildfire-driven evacuation of 70% of the population. Badass & compassionate.
An honour to serve with them.
Thanks @tara_kiran for sharing the voices of Cdns to create a blueprint for #primarycare. The themes underscore what we on the front line so strongly believe: the importance of relationship, access, cultural safety and teams. We need systems to enable this, including in #NWT.
Over the last 16 months, our team has conducted the largest public engagement ever on the future of #primarycare in Canada
Today we release our final report✨

Continuity of care is a core value, and at the core of the value, of family medicine and primary care. It must be prioritized in any healthcare reforms. Access without continuity isn’t good medicine for patients or good for our healthcare systems. @CFPC_e @WoncaWorld @aafp
The policy direction for many years in the UK has been to ignore continuity of care and focus on fast access to any clinician.
But this Analysis argues a renewed focus on continuity could in fact help reduce the pressures on general practice and the #NHS

Thank you @StolleryKids ICU for including me as a parent during your team rounds and decision making. I can contribute important history, better understand the plan, and feel part of the team supporting my daughter. #familycenteredcare #personnotpatient

The most Canadian thing ever is trying to make people understand that when Yellowknife evacuated we have to travel farther than driving from Paris to Copenhagen. #NWTFire
Smoke is thick in Yellowknife with few public options for clean air - critical for health and to reduce impact on the healthcare system. If you don’t have access to clean air, consider DIY: create a “clean air room”: epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-i… #NWTwildfires @OurYellowknife

Advice for future leaders - from #CMHFInd2023 - remember your “why” @CdnMedHallFame @CFPC_e @cfpcceo @christie_newton @DrSarahJCook
For the first time, @CFPC_e has included the Territories in its recognition of Family Physicians of the Year. I couldn’t be more proud of my colleague and friend Dr. Dave Pontin as the first recipient.
@meropemills your story hits close to home. I am the mom of a 16 year old who had a harrowing hospital experience, but I am also a doctor. Every physician should read this. theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

After 2+ years of COVID & meeting growing healthcare demands with dwindling resources, Canada’s family doctors are exhausted, demoralized & nearing burnout. Thank you @FamPhysCan @bradybouchard @cfpcceo for recognizing this - looking forward to the advocacy that is to come.
It has been a long two years. The CFPC hears the concerns of family doctors.
