A boy watched lobsters in a resort tank, asked what happened to them, went quietly to his room, and came back wearing a Spider-Man mask. Same shirt. Same shorts. Same shoes. Just the mask. He had priorities.
The family was vacationing at a small resort in Mexico when the boy discovered the restaurant's lobster tank. He studied them for a while. Then he asked the question that changed the trajectory of the trip.
What happens to them?
He got his answer and went back to his room without saying anything else. His parents probably assumed that was the end of it.
It was not.
Restaurant cameras caught him returning a few minutes later in his Spider-Man mask, reaching into the tank, and carrying lobsters down to the ocean. He made the trip more than once. By the time staff noticed and intervened, roughly four hundred dollars worth of lobster had been released into the sea.
His parents were handed the bill and asked to leave the resort early.
The boy explained his reasoning simply. He wore the mask so nobody would know it was him.
His mother shared the story afterward with one observation that said everything about the situation.
"He's grounded, but he keeps asking whether the lobsters made it. I don't think he regrets a thing."
He didn't change his clothes. He didn't change his shoes. He found a mask, decided that was sufficient cover for a covert ocean rescue operation, and executed the plan.
Four hundred dollars of legal consequences later, he still just wants to know if the lobsters are okay.
Honestly, Spider-Man would probably understand.

South Africa has approved new export quotas for elephant, black rhino & leopard hunting trophies.
Born Free is deeply disappointed by this decision, which disregards calls for stronger protections for some of Africa's most iconic species.

Happy #WorldLionDay Since 2018, we've worked with @BornFreeFDN to raise awareness of lions through drawings by children from Africa & the UK. Lion populations have declined by 75% over the last 5 decades. Support Born Free and help protect lions in the wild @willtravers

🦁 It's #WorldLionDay!
Kenya is proud to be home to the African lion; our national population now stands at 2,512 individuals. In Meru National Park, our teams closely monitor lions in collaboration with WRTI, KWS, and hotel guides through our Citizen Science initiative.
But as apex predators, lions face growing threats. Shrinking, fragmented habitats, driven by expanding settlement and agriculture, are pushing lions into closer contact with people and livestock. Combined with declining natural prey, this fuels human-wildlife conflict, often ending in retaliatory killings.
At Born Free, we're working to change this. Through ongoing monitoring, we build a clearer picture of lion populations, movement and behaviour to guide real conservation action. Our community conservation assistants, drawn from communities experiencing conflict, are helping build the trust needed for coexistence.
Together with our partners across the Meru landscape, we're promoting better habitat management and educating communities on the vital role lions play in a healthy ecosystem.
This World Lion Day, join us in protecting Africa's majestic big cats. Read more about lions bit.ly/4z8HQB0

Remember Cecil the lion, killed by a trophy hunter in 2015?
11 years on, trophy hunting continues - with over 250,000 trophies exported globally.
The UK promised a ban, yet permits are still being issued.
It’s time to act.
