He says his mailbox has been hit over and over, so this version is six by six posts sunk about four feet into two and a half yards of concrete, roughly 4,000 pounds by his count. He says he chased the last driver who hit it all the way home and their insurance paid. The clip opens and closes on a truck lying on its side next to it at night.
Part of me loves this. If you keep taking out a man's mailbox, eventually he stops building mailboxes and starts building bunkers. And nobody hits a mailbox sitting on its own post at the edge of the yard by accident eight times unless they're flying down that road.
The other part of me knows how this goes. Somebody's teenager swerves for a deer, and now a concrete block is the reason they're in the hospital. Plenty of towns have rules about what you can put that close to the road for exactly that reason.
I'd probably split the difference. Build it tough, put reflectors on it, and call the county about speed on that road. Then go get the mail like a normal person.
Either way, slow down on his street.

On April 4, 2019, First Amendment auditor Rogue Nation filmed inside the Florida Dept. of Health in Osceola County lobby in Kissimmee.
Staff called the Osceola Sheriff Department and Deputy C. Bonar badge #2154 responded.
He wore an F.T.O. pin. (Field Training Officer)
Deputy Bonar accused him of 'loitering' and questioned what business he had on the property.
He then claimed recording someone without their permission is a crime and the man recording could be trespassed for allegedly “causing a nuisance” by making employees uncomfortable with his presence and recording.
The video ends with Bonar going to talk to the complainant. (Which he should have done first.)
No arrest was made.

🚔Why did Sgt. Billy Wheeler believe he needed to body slam this person from behind when another officer was calmly questioning him?
On Feb. 8, 2020, in Valdosta, GA, near a Walgreens, Valdosta PD officers responded to a 911 call about a man panhandling/harassing customers.
Two men matched the description.
One had outstanding felony warrants and was detained.
The other was Antonio Arnelo Smith (then 46), who said he was waiting for a Western Union transfer and had done nothing wrong.
Officer Dominic Henry stopped Smith. Smith cooperated, handed over his ID, and answered questions.
Sgt. Billy Wheeler then approached from behind, grabbed Smith’s right wrist, pinned both arms in a bear hug, ordered him to put his hands behind his back (while they were already pinned), and body-slammed him face-first to the ground.
Smith screamed, “Oh my God, you broke my wrist!”
Officers handcuffed him.
One said he was under arrest for a warrant.
Henry immediately corrected them: the warrant was for the other man nearby.
Cuffs were removed within about a minute.
Ambulance was called; Smith left before EMS arrived. Hospital later confirmed fractures to his wrist (distal radius and ulna).
Smith sued the officers, police chief, mayor, and city for excessive force and civil rights violations (seeking ~$700k).
In June 2021, Valdosta City Council approved a $350,000 settlement plus creation of a citizens review board.
