This is because deeper surveys and focus groups have shown that self-described socialists expect taxes on the super-wealthy to finance all of socialism. Its not a theory of shared sacrifice as much as lazy free lunch economics. And politicians feed that by promising free lunches.
The strange evolution of the Democratic Party on economics is that the rank-and-file are now clearly favorable to socialism, and also think taxes are too high.

“There’s something wrong with a country that can allow people to write purposely negative stories.” —Donald Trump As I’ve said before, there’s likely never been a president more detached from the core American culture of liberty, individualism, and self-determination than Trump.

Nobody tell the American Socialists who keeps saying things about how they "don’t want Communism, only Scandinavian socialism!", which doesn’t exist.
For decades, Sweden was known for its inclusive welfare state and its strong voice on human rights. But recently, the country has come to resemble something very different: an ultra-capitalist haven, with an increasingly tough approach on immigration. I explained what changed:

The Reflecting Pool is a perfect metaphor for the Trump administration: - Ignore experts and science - Overspend - Declare early, historic victory - "THE LEFT HATE THIS" - Ends in total failure - Unfounded conspiracies about sabotage - MAGA pretends it doesn't actually matter

Someone should remind @PamBondi that Richard Nixon didn’t go to prison. But his Attorney General did.

Kick Hungary out of the EU
Viktor Orban has officially notified the European Commission that unless the European Union “immediately and unconditionally” supports the "peace plan" of Donald Trump, Hungary will block any and all forms of European aid for Ukraine.

I say this all as an outside observer who opposes war & does not have any stake in the prospects of the Trump admin or MAGA. But here's what I strongly suspect happened: 1. Trump decided a few weeks ago that he wanted to attack Iran's nuclear sites (a position he's held for over a decade) 2. The "restrainer" faction inside his admin panicked and pulled out all stops to try to nudge Trump back in a more isolationist direction. This included attempting to control and "message" the intel info that reached Trump, putting out counternarratives that questioned intel assessments about Iran's nuclear capabilities, strategic leaking to the press about the palace politics in the WH, enlisting Vance to try champion their position by doing his Wormtongue thing to Trump, and stirring up the Tucker Carlson "influencer" space online to try to engage the public against a strike. 3. Trump figured out he was being played by this faction and lashed out at them. 4. The "restrainer" faction, including Vance, then pivoted on a dime to retain Trump's favor, and now they pretend that they were on board with attacking Iran's nuclear sites all along. 5. The hyper-online MAGA influencer world around Carlson is currently adrift - caught between their loyalty to Trump and anger that Trump just shirked them on a major issue.
