I’m looking forward to comparing the tone of this year’s conference to last year’s conference. Last year everyone was emphatic about raising the federal funds rate. This year’s theme is “getting back on track.” (Cc: @HooverInst)

@EconomicsOne thinks the rate won’t stop at 5% and I tend to agree because inflation is very sticky and takes a while to come down to 2-3% target. Recession started in Q1 already, I think. Just my quick guess..

I just saw this... Thanks a lot for retweeting @EconomicsOne!
I also show how simultaneously accounting for household heterogeneity and people's behavioral biases can help us to understand the current high inflation rates

This JMP develops a new model with heterogeneity & bounded rationality to show how monetary policy affects the economy. People with higher MPCs are more exposed to monetary policy, amplifying current policy effects, implying weaker future policy impact. .teapawt.net/econ_jmp/status/159145…

Is the Fed prepared to bring down inflation if that requires throwing people out of work?
That was the question posed to three current or former Fed officials Friday night at Stanford.
What followed was a story about a panic button, a security guard, and a piece of art:

Proposal: why don't we write to basic macro identity as
Y = (C + I + G - M) + X
to make it clear that the trade deficit doesn't reduce GDP, rather, imports are subtracted simply to eliminate them from domestic expenditures

John Taylor, the Stanford economist who pioneered a widely followed policy-setting formula, says his "Taylor rule" calls for a 5% Fed policy rate by year's end.
He thinks that isn't practical, but that the Fed should get to 3% by December.
