Hot tip: if you HAVE to have dinner and multiple margaritas at Jimmy Buffet’s restaurant on CityWalk, make sure to do it with Werner Herzog.
Women Make COMP at ACS Spring 2026 is stacked with incredible speakers and awardees - an exciting showcase of outstanding science and the people driving it forward.
Big thanks to our sponsors ACS, Optibrium, Iambic Therapeutics, and OpenEye for making this event possible!
I experienced great customer service this morning from @Delta during with a phone interaction with a guy named Matthew. Keep up the great work! Delta's earned my business going forward.

This story was truly heartwarming. I found it in the CBS archives. A man approaches a CBS reporter in Russia after realizing they are American and shares the story of his captivity. He had been held in a concentration camp alongside American soldiers, separated from them by a large fence.
Each American soldier received five kilos of food from the Red Cross every Friday, but the Germans allowed nothing for the Red Army POWs. They were given only a small amount of soup each day and were constantly starving.
Some U.S. soldiers came up with a plan with the Red Army POWs across the fence to throw food over to the Russian prisoners. The plot was eventually discovered, and the Gestapo brought all 8,000 American soldiers outside and demanded they reveal the names of the Russians involved on the other side. Not a single American opened his mouth or betrayed them.

In 2025, I stayed in love with the same woman, continued raising 3 great kids, buried my Dad, turned 50, and wrote the best paper I am ever going to do.
The GIC paper is out! Really proud of this one.

I am going to bang the drum about this again. This would win @Shanemgillis an Oscar.

"I love Kools, the minty flavor..."
Replying to @JasonKPargin
@JasonKPargin : on page 15 of ".. black box...", you mention someone smelling like a particular kind of smoke. I once had a seatmate on a flight wearing a comically oversized suit and smelled of the grey circle from microwave pizza, which puffed out when he adjusted his jacket.

Average Ernest Hemingway story: To prove his masculinity, Hemingway sailed into a hurricane only to return haunted by a tragic love affair and God's indifference to his despair.
Average F. Scott Fitzgerald story: After his wife called him gay, Fitzgerald slipped on a banana peel.
You should listen to this.

Idea for a conference: timed dunking booths. All talks are given from the seat in the tank such that when time elapses, the speaker is dropped into the tank. At talk time +90 seconds, piranhas are released into the tank.
This story is going to sound like baloney, but it is not. A couple years ago, I was flying back home to Doha and after getting my checked bags I was directed to go to secondary baggage screening. Note that this is not scary.
Soon as the wine dick got through the door and out of the "bag search" area, the enormous security guy burst out laughing, as did a number of other employees in the room.
