I remember one time I had a terrible day at work, so I called him. He immediately noticed something was wrong because my voice sounded off. I told him I’d tell him what happened later for now, I just wanted to stay on the phone with him for as long as I could until I felt better.
He simply said, “As long as being on the phone with me makes you feel better, baby, I’m here.”
And somehow, just knowing I didn’t have to explain myself immediately or pretend to be okay made me feel so safe.

To all the first daughters, I hope you find a love that makes you feel safe enough to finally let someone else take care of you.
Marriage requires regular conversations about what is working, what is hurting, and what needs to change.

I’m in love with this sentence:
“The degree to which a person can grow is directly proportional to the amount of truth they can accept about themselves without running away.”

My mom is from Edo State, East to be precise.
She currently has a lodge at Auchi Poly with over 20 rooms. Not to mention the hotel under construction right as you enter Warrake, plus other pending properties.
My father is still alive and has his own in Lagos and Ogun State.
My mom’s elder sister has her own houses—one in Auchi and one in Warrake. Her husband is still very much alive.
My mom’s younger sister also has her own house.
All my mum’s sisters own properties in their names. Their husbands are still very much alive.
Edo women are hardworking; abeg, no be by death dem dey take get anything.
I can go on about women I know who own properties and houses in their names and are not widows. These properties are not their husbands’.
Please do not generalize this.
Food ,shelter and clothing are not the only prerequisite for marriage
Some ladies can provide this for themselves
Can he lead ?
Can he defend his home ?
Can he handle responsibility?
Can he be trusted?
Is he accountable?
