No. Nigeria ended petrol subsidies in 2023, and the government has repeatedly ruled out any return despite current price pressures. That removal was essential: it made the Dangote Refinery commercially viable so it could supply 70%+ of domestic needs. Without it, the plant could not have competed with subsidised imports. Availability today comes from local refining capacity, not subsidies. Temporary NNPC retail margin cuts are commercial decisions, not public subsidies.

*MY UNILAG MASTER'S DEGREE JOURNEY*..
Today, as I write my final paper at UNILAG, I reflect on a journey filled with challenges, sleepless nights, assignments, presentations, and unforgettable memories.
Balancing work and academics was never easy, but by God's grace, I made it this far.
From the first day to this very moment, every challenge has been a lesson, and every step has brought me closer to my goal.
One final paper, one last push, and a dream about to become reality!
Thank you, UNILAG. The journey has been tough, but the story is beautiful and marvelous in my sight.

BREAKING: J.P. Morgan includes Nigeria in new emerging-market bond index with 7.4% weight
J.P. Morgan has included Nigeria in its newly introduced Government Bond Index–Emerging Markets Edge (GBI-EM Edge), assigning the country a 7.4% weighting in the benchmark designed to track local-currency government debt across frontier emerging markets.
This is according to J.P. Morgan’s Global Index Research report dated September 14, 2026 seen by Nairametrics.
The inclusion puts Nigerian naira-denominated government bonds back into a J.P. Morgan emerging-market benchmark more than a decade after the country was removed from the bank’s flagship government bond index in 2015.

The stoppage of subsidy and price-fixing is a right move, although it should have come earlier when the economy was stronger.

WHY TINUBU 4+4?
Foreign Reserves Edition
Nigeria’s gross foreign reserves have now risen to $54.13 billion, their second-highest level on record compared to the peaks of every year since 1999.
Only September 2008 was higher, when reserves peaked at $62.08 billion, just as the global financial crisis was unfolding.
For context, here is Nigeria’s 10 highest reserve peaks since 1999:
2008 — $62.08 billion
2026 — $54.13 billion
2009 — $53.25 billion
2007 — $51.33 billion
2013 — $48.86 billion
2018 — $47.87 billion
2025 — $45.71 billion
2019 — $45.18 billion
2012 — $44.18 billion
2014 — $43.61 billion
Under President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria today holds more in foreign reserves than at any point since the 2008 global financial crisis.
From $32.29 billion in May 2023 to $54.13 billion today. That is an increase of $21.84 billion, or nearly 68%.
The significance is in the history. Even though the reforms have been difficult, the numbers are beginning to tell their own story. We are on the way to prosperity.
Thank you Mr President @officialABAT .
