Let me point out that those who have chosen to miss the point do it deliberately. It is a hill they have deliberately chosen to die. A stupid hill.
My own submission to the “pregnancy is a death sentence” discourse.
It wasn’t meant literally. It was said during an event, yet people are more interested in policing the language than understanding the point.
It’s incredibly insensitive to bring your high moral faux pas into conversations where women are sharing the dangers of pregnancy, their traumatic experiences, and what pregnancy has cost them, especially when women has actually died from complications.
We get it. You’re the better version of the “prototype woman.” You’re not like these other girls . You’re stronger, and apparently above our struggles.
But sometimes, READ THE ROOM.
Let women vent. Let them share their experiences, find comfort in knowing they’re not alone, bond over their struggles, and work together to find solutions to the issues that plague them.

Until men can get pregnant, their opinions on HG and how deadly pregnancy is don’t count.

Arguing women's reproductive health with men on twitter in 2026 is a choice. These people know the risks and implications, they just don't care.

The schools you attended didn’t teach you figure of speech? Stop embarrassing yourself
This is a lazy argument. Have you been on death row to know what a death sentence feels like ??
A death sentence means the person is expected to die unless something happens. Nobody starts pregnancy expecting to die, so what do you mean “it’s like a death sentence” ?
Statistically, the number of normal pregnancy and deliveries far outnumber the number of deaths by a very very wide margin. How is that a death sentence ??
I don’t need to be pregnant to understand how pregnancy affects women. I’ve worked with pregnant women and a lot of them certainly don’t feel like it’s a death sentence.
This thing is common sense and English language.

This pregnancy discourse is soo triggering.
A friend lost his wife just 2 years back as a result of child birth. I just lost my babe less than 6 months ago. My sister almost lost her life. My mother slumped after having me.
Ani ko ni ragba fun everyone trivializing it.

1. Wrong. You can do some research. There are people who were sentenced to death, but had their conviction overturned.
2. The figuration was clearly constructed using "like." A simile. Why's everyone missing that? Even if "like" was absent, one can still argue it's hyperbole.

Nigeria’s maternal mortality rate is even too high to be chatting shit about pregnancy not feeling like a death sentence. You have absolutely no business minimising the risks women take to bring children into this world. If you don’t get away from here with your winter boots.

Meanwhile your mother has been doing fasting since your sister told her she was pregnant.
I want to believe some of you are like 21 years old cuz you can't be this stupid at 30. It's unacceptable.

Again yes, Zanzibar has pristine beaches and beautiful turquoise waters, but it also has real homes and every day lives. Everywhere doesn’t look like a luxury resort.
We should be more mindful. These are people’s homes, not just backdrops for your instagram dump.

she’s a very wicked babe. that “poverty wickedness” has not left her. SugaBelly was never wrong; poor people have a sense of inhumane wickedness because they don’t even see themselves individually as humans worthy of a good life not to talk of others.
