Really excited to be sharing our newest work on the bacterial Tol-Pal complex! The amazing @yeowjiang solved cryo-EM structures of the TolQRA complex in 2 rotary states, aiding us to come up with a model for force transduction across the cell envelope! #SGBUG @SCELSE_SG @ChemNUS

Did you know that bacterial pathogens have a love-hate relationship with lipids and fatty acids? Our latest review shows how they influence virulence. Congrats to @JackKWaters (first 1st-author pub 🎉) for collating this wonderful story. doi.org/10.1128/mmbr.00126-2…

Dive into the latest findings on Shigella flexneri as it remodels and consumes host lipids during infection in this study by Alice Ascari et al., published in the Journal of Bacteriology.🦠🔍 Read more here: doi.org/10.1128/jb.00320-23
A big congrats to @RTUBrynley, who won the prestigious ASM SA/NT Nancy Millis Award. Brynley delivered an outstanding talk on the battle for balance on the nutrient tightrope: Lipid homeostasis during bacterial infection.

I am still looking for postdocs to join my lab. I have several NIH-funded positions to work either on Acinetobacter pathogenesis or OMV biogenesis in Bacteroides. Please RT.
Congrats @alice_ascari on number 4 from your PhD studies. This study was a lot of fun!
Our exciting new work shows that S. flexneri redecorates its cell surface when transitioning to an intracellular lifestyle. The pathogen has an appetite for host lipids to supplement its energy needs, thereby depleting host lipid droplets. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128…

Goodbye sunny Adelaide. Thanks so much to the @EijkelkampLab for hosting me – at Adelaide, South Australia
The THIRD first-author paper from your PhD.....nice work Lawrence! The study highlights the importance of taking a holistic approach to studying bacterial envelope biology.
Really stoked to tick off another PhD project at @TheCellSurface characterising @A_baumannii's multifunctional phosphatidylglycerol phosphatases sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Huge thanks to @alice_ascari @AdamsFelise @SalehAlquethamy @BEijkelkamp for making this possible!
Your fabulous lab skills and keen eye for detail have been intrumental to many of our processes! Thank you so much Felise for your dedication to the lab over the years. You will be missed by all of us.
Yesterday marked the end of an era! Last day in the @EijkelkampLab 🥲
Over the past 4 years, I finished my PhD, survived a pandemic, had a baby, published 10 papers & had so much fun along the way!
I leave feeling proud & excited for the next chapter, what ever that may be! ✨
A fantastic presentation by @alice_ascari on Shigella envelope biology..... a huge congrats on the award.🎉
Thanks to @AdelaideProtein for organising a fun and inspiring event!
Loved the opportunity to present some work at the @AdelaideProtein event today! and thanks for the award 🦠🧬
