🌍 This #WorldEnvironmentDay we're sharing this striking diptych we received last year. A reminder to examine our impact on the planet, and care for nature as much as we admire it. Artwork credit: Honest Pollution, HM Prison Maghaberry, Bronze Baseroom Award for Painting, 2024

Great article by @charleshymas in @Telegraph exploring childhood offences holding people back 30-40+ years later. @WorkingChance research shows 30% of employers will automatically reject an applicant with any criminal record. How can people be expected to move on & find work?

It was great to meet the amazing probation team in Camden and Islington this week. I was so impressed by their dedication and passion for helping offenders turn their lives around. We know we need more staff to help, so recruiting 1000 more probation officers will make a big difference.

Something @campbellclaret @RoryStewartUK have repeatedly been saying on @RestIsPolitics. The focus on entire justice system is essentfrom the get-go. Worth noting on election day- people in prison are denied the vote. Rory Stewart told @LongfordTrust lecture that must change
By this time tomorrow the next government will be elected. With jails in England and Wales facing an overcrowding crisis of unprecedented proportions, attention will need to turn immediately to our broken prison system. Don't miss our webinar next week: howardleague.org/events/spot…

So very sad to hear about the loss of Frank Field, who was always such a kind and considerate gentleman, a man who was in politics for a purpose and stood by his principles, fighting for justice and reform. I knew him well and we would often chat about things and usually agree. – at London, England

🧵Our Campaigns Director @neilsonandrew remembers the former chief inspector of prisons, Lord Ramsbotham who passed away in December - "he remained a tireless campaigner on improving prison conditions and a staunch voice for penal reform... He will be much missed."

I'm very sorry to hear of the death of David Ramsbotham. He was fearless in his fight to improve the treatment of prisoners and to maintain the independence of the inspectorate - a fight he continued in his time in the House of Lords. He will be very much missed.
