That's enough of this summer honey business, it's heather time... except it maybe isn't. Flowering seems behind the last few years, due to heat and dry I guess. Some looks absolutely knackered, but some looks OK. Any chance of a crop without rain? We'll find out

Heather shifting started today. Probably a few days late but bees were not ready. Estimated number up this morning 205. In some place the bell heather has already been out for 2 weeks. Other spots at normal time.

That's the first hives moved to the Bell Heather at Glentanar this morning. I put them there on 3rd of July last year to find it half finished. This year it's in pristine condition, would rather have moved them last week but hopefully, weather permitting the potential is there

🐝 A Change in the Beekeeping Team 🐝 In a few weeks’ time, we’ll be saying goodbye to Andy as he leaves Gwenyn Gruffydd to pursue a new career opportunity. Andy has been a huge part of our journey, helping us grow our beekeeping operation to over 450 colonies and contributing enormously to the business along the way. Many of you will know him from our YouTube videos, where we’ve shared the highs, lows and laughs of beekeeping together. Thankfully, those memories are there for us all to look back on. We’ll be sad to see him go, but we wish him every success in his next chapter….I wonder if he will miss packing nucs in the rain like today!? 😅 As a result, we’ll be advertising for a Beekeeper later this week, so keep an eye on our page for details.

We finish the main cereal growth period with 0mm of rain in April followed by 21mm in May, none of which has been in a rain event of more than 6mm and with brutal heat and wind to go with it. That brings us to 25mm total in 11 weeks. It’s arid out there folks

A warming trend next week is confirmed as high pressure advances from south next Wednesday. Calm area of high pressure is expected with nights probably not balmy, likely to become very warm by day in strong sunshine. Second half of next week geared to be ☀️👍📈

Some impressive cloud formations today over #OSR but they unfortunately didn’t yield any rain. OSR well into mid flower and setting pods. #Bentfieldburyfarms #harvest26
