This is what you need to know! For 35 years, @stanbicug has been giving back to the communities it serves, investing in initiatives that transform lives through health, education, and environmental conservation. This October, a month termed by the Bank as “The Love Month,” @stanbicug, together with the community and under the guidance of Masaka District Local Government, planted over 400 indigenous tree saplings at Manwa Local Forest Reserve. The activity was overseen by @Env_Alert, the Running Out Of Trees Campaign Secretariat, with technical support from the @min_waterUg, reaffirming a shared commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. The bank is extending its legacy of impact through reforestation efforts aimed at restoring over 15 Hectares of Manwa Local Forest Reserve and contributing to a more sustainable future. #ManwaLFR, #ROOTSCAMPAIGN #LoveMonth #CSR

HAPPENING NOW | Climate Change and Health Environmental Alert (EA), together with an Austrian delegation led by Südwind, is currently at the Ministry of Health in Uganda, engaging in discussions on how Austria and Uganda can exchange knowledge and experiences at the intersection of climate change and health. While the two countries face different challenges within their respective contexts, one fundamental question remains common: How can we strengthen our health systems and build resilient health infrastructure in the face of climate change? The engagement provides an opportunity to share lessons, explore practical solutions, and strengthen collaboration towards climate-resilient health systems. #ResilientCommunitiestoHealthandClimateChange

For the past 22 months, @SuedwindAustria and the Austrian Ministry of Health have invested in initiatives that are transforming lives in our communities. Our delegation from Austria witnessed the last batch of agricultural inputs provided to our communities in Kasese and Ntoroko. Beyond climate change awareness and resilience, vulnerable communities have gained sustainable livelihood opportunities and water harvesting systems. Today, these women can store water for the moments they need it most, irrigate their gardens, and bring hope and resilience in the face of climate change. All credit goes to our Donors and Partners: @SuedwindAustria, International Partnerships Austria, and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection of the Republic of Austria. 📸 by @godhrt

Katharina Nosal, project coordinator at @SuedwindAustria. “Austria has a long, long tradition in supporting Uganda, they have very good connections, and a lot of money is given to this Country. From my side, I'm always happy to get the funds to support Uganda, but I'm also a little bit always afraid, what happened if we finish the project and go out?” These concerns highlight the importance of sustainability beyond the project implementation period. Investments in sanitation facilities, water tanks and solar energy systems are essential in improving community well-being, but their long-term impact depends on proper maintenance and continued functionality. “If we put such a lot of money to build toilets, water tanks, solar systems, it needs to be maintained. Otherwise, in three-four years, you may find that some of these materials are not working, the solar switches faulty so it means some dollars have already been invested and talking care of these things should be a priority for the beneficiaries." Sustaining development gains requires shared responsibility among local governments, communities and implementing partners. Prioritising routine maintenance, timely repairs and local capacity-building will help protect these investments, ensuring that the facilities continue to serve their intended purpose long after the project has ended. #ResilentCommunities #SafeFutures

#RCHCH-U Project Review Meeting and Field Visits With @NtorokoD Local Government Leadership. “We should now benchmark these facilities and work towards establishing similar toilets, equipped with appropriate health information and educational materials, in all schools across the district,” said Muzeeyi Cyrus, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ntoroko District, while appreciating the school health facilities constructed under the Resilient Communities to Health and Climate Hazards in Uganda project. He further urged Environmental Alert (EA) and development partners to give greater consideration to the boy child in future interventions. While recognizing the project’s important focus on addressing the unique needs of girls, he emphasized that boys should equally be equipped with the knowledge, life skills and support needed to understand health, hygiene, sanitation and the challenges their female peers face as they grow. “Preparing girls for a healthy and dignified future must go hand in hand with preparing boys to become responsible, informed and supportive men,” he emphasized, noting that today’s boys will become tomorrow’s men, partners and fathers. He stressed that investing in both girls and boys is essential to fostering mutual understanding, respect and shared responsibility for health and well-being, ultimately creating safer, more inclusive and supportive school and community environments for everyone. The RCHCH-U project is implemented by Environmental Alert (EA) and Südwind with funding from The International Partnerships Austria and the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection of the Republic of Austria, and through its implementing partner, Environmental Alert. #ResilientCommunities

Before setting off yesterday for the joint field visit with the Ntoroko District Leadership under the #RCHCH-U project, it was encouraging to hear from Mbonye Emmanuel, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Ntoroko District, about the realities communities continue to face. He noted that Ntoroko remains highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, with communities continuing to experience challenges such as flooding and prolonged dry spells. With the Ministry of Water and Environment warning of an intensifying El Niño event, he emphasised the need for strengthened preparedness to help communities cope with the increasing climate-related risks. He also pointed out the importance of interventions that do more than respond to immediate needs, but also strengthen community resilience and sustainability and this is where the interventions under the RCHCH-U project, which the team was visiting to assess and learn from, become particularly relevant. The project supports communities through climate-smart livelihoods, WASH, renewable energy, and other community-led solutions designed to strengthen resilience and help communities better cope with the impacts of climate change. @SuedwindAustria

#WASHCSOForum 2026. In Kiyagara Parish, Kahunge Sub-county, Kamwenge District, the community is benefiting from an automated solar-powered water well that provides a reliable and sustainable supply of water. Powered by solar energy, the system reduces reliance on costly and unreliable energy sources while ensuring that water remains accessible to households and other community users. Beyond providing water, the investment strengthens the sustainability of the local water system by promoting reliable access, reducing operational costs, and supporting community resilience to climate-related challenges. @ENRCSO

The district leadership appreciated the various facilities and infrastructure established in schools and health centres, noting their contribution to improving service delivery and the well-being of communities, especially girls in schools. To ensure the sustainability of these investments, the district leadership committed to strengthening oversight and supporting schools and health facilities to properly maintain, protect, and, where possible, improve the facilities established through the project. This will help ensure that the benefits of the project are sustained and continue to serve communities in the long term. #ResilientCommunities @SuedwindAustria

Last Tuesday, we also delivered inputs for the demonstration site in Kyondo Sub-county. This is an important step towards strengthening community-level learning, promoting the adoption of good practices, and supporting the implementation of sustainable interventions. These interventions will help communities adapt to the impacts of climate change, strengthen their resilience, improve livelihoods, and adopt practices that support sustainable production and environmental conservation. By investing in practical, locally relevant solutions, we are helping communities become better prepared to respond to a changing climate while building a more resilient future. @SuedwindAustria #ResilienceCommunities

Climate Resilience: "I re-emphasised the critical role of Village Health Teams (VHTs) in strengthening community-level healthcare delivery, health education, mobilisation, and referral of patients to health facilities, since the equipment in these spaces is now available." Nyakake Kabugho Betty, Senior Environmental Health Officer, @kaseseDLG, said yesterday during an engagement with VHTs. According to Betty, these engagements help us assess and strengthen our performance within the WASH sector. I also appreciate the valuable WASH, Medical Supplies, and Solar interventions that donors, through Environmental Alert, have brought closer to our communities, improving access to essential services and contributing to better health and well-being. 📸 by David Ssozi @SuedwindAustria @MinofHealthUG @kaseseDLG
