I'm making a game without AI. Many gamers want my kind of intentionally crafted game, but wouldn't be able to find it beneath a mountain of AI games. Itch's "No AI" search function will help them find the games they want to play.
itch now lets you hide AI-made games in search results too Tick "No AI" and you only see games where the dev has declared no generative AI was used. Also filter by AI graphics, audio, text or code Should Steam add a filter like this next?

Did you know the theme for "What's Happening!!" was written by the great Henry Mancini?! Just found out today. This is like listening to my childhood. youtube.com/watch?v=kFmKmJFS…

The Zelda puppets remind me of the Sherlock Holmes TV show written by my favorite Japanese film maker, Koki Mitani. I enjoyed watching it when it aired in 2014.
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake Art Director Aya Shida confirms the game's design was inspired to be like a puppet show! "To help the team understand what we were aiming for, early in development we used phrases like “a puppet-show feel” and “the analog feel of practical effects films” as keywords. Neither puppet shows nor practical effects films reproduce reality exactly as it is. Even so, both create a convincing sense that the characters truly exist within their respective fantasy worlds. We also felt that there was some overlap between these forms of expression and the distinctive nostalgia evoked by the original game." nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/ask…

An example of where I prefer the North American box art. Unfortunately, the dog is cropped to an undecipherable brown lump. The composition works better as a poster. Image source: reddit.com/r/snes/comments/1…

A success.
Six pounds of polyhedral magic. That’s what it took to arm the next generation of adventurers last night. While the youngest monsters and heroes got a mountain of candy, every older trick r treater at my door walked away with three random dice, pulled straight from the hoard. I was genuinely blown away by how many kids instantly recognized the sacred geometry. Their eyes lit up with pure, unadulterated excitement. A few didn't know what they were holding just yet, but I have a feeling they’ll learn the magic soon enough. Seeing their raw reactions was incredible, it’s exactly the kind of legendary loot drop I would have lost my mind over when I was their age. It hit differently, though. When I first started rolling the bones, these dice were widely considered the tools of a "bad ritual." We were the generation that had to hide our character sheets and rulebooks, masking our pure enjoyment of the hobby just to dodge the panic of the era. We kept the campaigns alive in basements and shadows. Seeing kids today openly thrilled to receive a handful of dice on Halloween proves that the game won. That is a torch I have proudly carried for decades, and it's one I will gladly keep passing to the next brave party that steps up to the door. #TTRPG #DiceGoblin #NextGenGamers #SatanicPanicSurvivor #HalloweenLoot #TabletopRPG #KeepRolling

These vintage internally lit blow mold decorations have such a warm, inviting, and magical effect! @FensTheSpook's house is a visual treat.
Halloween Night at Fens Manor 🎃 My wife really does it up and the neighbors love coming by and complimenting her style! Most if not all decorations are vintage and not reproductions!

I'd have loved trick-or-treating here in my childhood. Then again, I remember some friends weren't even allowed to even say "Dungeons & Dragons" at their house. A setup like this might have caused quite a stir. Very cool!

A Japanese friend asked me if there are traditional Halloween meals in America. I told her Americans sometimes make food look spooky, but maybe not anything like Japan's ubiquitous Christmas fried chicken or New Year "Osechi." Do you have a Halloween meal tradition?

"NES, now with Motion Sickness™" The game I'm making is 3D with NES inspired graphics and gameplay, so I find this interesting, but some of these effects are too much for me.
store.steampowered.com/app/1… ファミコンゲームを、今風の3Dのボクセルなゲームに変換するというエミュレーターは、正に唯一無二だぞ!!

Lovecraft ghostwrote for Houdini?!
Houdini died in Detroit on Halloween 1926, a week after doing a show there with a fever of 104. Our May-June-July 1924 issue ran his "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs," ghostwritten by horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, who lost the typescript on his way to his wedding. #weirdtober

Can't blame the ghost for being jealous of the friends' 1994 outfits.

I used to teach music at preschool. It's probably good for the kids that it never sounded as spooky as this piece made with preschool instrument samples. Happy Halloween👻

In my early adulthood, my town librarian insisted that I take a break from my constant diet of non-fiction and read "She" by H. Rider Haggard. It rekindled my love of fiction.

With the technological limitations of the NES, gameplay was front and center. I still play it regularly and more often than the SNES. My own game design is heavily inspired by its sensibilities.
Probably one of my hottest takes is that I think the NES has a better library than the SNES

A very cool cabinet with a fun play on words (Heavy Barrel is the name of the super gun you assemble in game).

Being late October, I assumed this was PR for yet another horror movie. What terror will suddenly burst from the egg and latch onto his face?! 🤣

This game by a fellow solo game dev has a lot of style.
I humbly announce my new solo-developed game: The King's Surveyor! A first-person exploration adventure in the King's Field tradition. You are a surveyor flung to the far edge of a valley nobody has mapped, and a long, dangerous road back home. Built in a custom engine over the last year, this game is all about getting back to the roots that got me into gaming in the first place! Wishlist and a repost would genuinely help a solo dev: store.steampowered.com/app/5…
