In this interview:
About working on a game for almost 10 years and hoping people will play it...
- There are more reasons to do things than does it find a big audience. If you find personal satisfaction, and grow in skill and understanding of the world - maybe it's worth doing just for that.
- Obviously financially, you want to be able to keep making games
- BUT when you put 10 years of your life into something, you hope a lot of people play it BECAUSE
- The reason you're putting so much time into it because you see what's interesting and beautiful about it and you hope others can see it to
- A lot of times in development, people will choose the path that gets things done faster, but not necessarily better because they want to defray costs (money, and the time of your life you're willing to spend on the game)
- This means if you're willing to pay those costs and spend the time, you can end up in a territory where other people didn't go, and automatically you'll have something that's different than what everyone else has.
- But paying the cost means it's going to be a little bit painful to get there.
I'm convinced it takes a different soul type to be willing to work on a game for 10 years. It's rare to listen to an interview from someone who gets it...this one is worth your time.

My friend Randy recently posted this on the @arcanelibrary Shadowdark RPG discord. I was there for the game he's referring to. Can you imagine the bravery it took a fellow of that age to sit down at a table to try a game he didn't even really understand, with an average player age of about 28? And what's more, his first check was a critical fail!
It just goes to show there's no crime in having an imagination as an adult, and you're never too old to try new things.

Next to Bill Schmidt of Fear Street fame, Jeffrey Lindberg @jeffreylindberg did some of my favorite late 20th/early 21st century pulp novel covers. His style had the playfulness of Goosebumps with the realism of an 80s aesthetic.

PLATO: EMPIRE
It is the oldest multi player combat computer game still being played.
We are down to about 8 to 10 players worldwide, and everyone who still plays is an ace.
There are some moves which can be easy if there are new players in the game, but rarely succeed against experienced players.
Tonight I landed a "Planet-Hype."
It is where you aim at the planet, jump into orbit, and unleash all the torpedoes you can at everyone who is already in orbit.
The goal is absolute destruction of the other team.
A perfect Planet-Hype means you do not die. I did die, but still, I landed a Hype and it felt awesome!
Planetary Orbit Cleared!
For a few moments I felt like a video game god. 😄
My dad told me his 50's were the best part of his life.
I must agree into my 50's and now even older and I am really excited about everything I do, all the friends I have, even sitting down to read a book.
Find your passions old or new and cultivate them.

The decision to move away from the pulp style for horror novel covers needs to be undone. I realize it's a different century and publishers aren't "competing for eyes" on supermarket bookstore racks anymore but give me a break!
