Please, don’t have a nice day. Have a day that matters, have a day that’s true, have a day, that means something - Harriet Lauler (The last Word). – at Wakiso, Uganda

4:01. The target was sub 4. I missed it by about a minute, and that honestly hurts. But I also ran a PB, roughly 16 minutes faster than my previous official marathon. The climb around Kibera slowed me badly until about km 29, but I found some speed again on the way down. Weeks of early mornings, disciplined eating, long runs and training in different towns while traveling all came back to me at the finish. Disappointed? Yes. Proud? Absolutely. Sub 4 is no longer far away. We recover. Then we go again.

Congratulations to Mercy Eragae for winning bronze at the African Road Cycling Championships in Kisumu. South Africa dominated the medals, but Kenya has talent worth developing. I'd love to see cycling receive more investment, visibility and grassroots support.

A nurse has been killed and another health worker seriously injured while responding to an Ebola alert in eastern DRC. Containing Ebola in The DRC will continue to be a challenge given such occurrences. Tragic and deeply concerning. Protecting frontline health workers is fundamental to containing outbreaks and safeguarding communities. Healthcare workers must never become targets.

Kenya Red Cross reports 47 missing person cases as rescue operations continue. The @InteriorKE CS @kipmurkomen gave a statement that only ONE person was missing. After that statement, several have been rescued alive. Government officials, be careful with media statements, especially were people's lives are involved.

What a performance in Valencia. Sheila Chepkirui wins the Half Marathon in 1:03:51, the fastest women's time of 2026. Fellow Kenyan Diana Wanza finishes just ONE second behind in 1:03:52. Two exceptional performances.

Uganda has introduced mandatory 21 day quarantine for returning citizens with recent DRC travel history as Ebola precautions intensify. Encouragingly, 60 contacts linked to Kenya's case have completed monitoring. Regional health security depends on vigilance, coordination and strong surveillance systems.

Brazil's Lula has won a fourth presidential term, overturning his first-round defeat to Flávio Bolsonaro. Quite a political comeback at 80.

Kenya's hospitals have until Friday, 30 October, to complete the transition to the new HMIS. Digitisation is necessary, but the real test is whether patients experience faster service, accurate records and fewer payment delays. Technology must improve care, not complicate it.

Yesterday's Nairobi Marathon was the culmination of weeks of early mornings, disciplined eating and training runs in different towns while traveling for work. Still reflecting on the experience. For now, a little recovery is in order.

Couldn't agree more. 👏🏾 Huge respect to every wheelchair athlete who opened the #StanChartNairobiMarathon this morning. Being seen matters on race day and every day after. We're proud to help Kenyans who use wheelchairs get where they need to go with dignity. ♿

A new PB for me. Though I missed sub 4 narrowly. I tried. But the Kibera hill stole my 2 minutes.

We are very good at making time for deadlines. Meetings go into calendars. Work commitments get reminders. Business calls are scheduled. But the people who matter most are often left with whatever time remains. Perhaps we need to rethink that.

There is a phone call you have been meaning to make. A friend you have been planning to visit. A parent or relative you keep promising to check on. But life gets busy, and we tell ourselves: "I will find time next week." Sometimes, next week keeps moving.

Today is World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day. The 2026 theme highlights lifelong experiences, from childhood to ageing. Healthcare must go beyond diagnosis and treatment. Independence, education, inclusion and continuity of care matter. Every stage of life deserves support. #WorldSBHDay

I am just about to take on the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon on a Red Plate ,1366. Weeks of preparation. Hundreds of kilometers covered. Early mornings, long runs, tired legs, disciplined nutrition, and countless small sacrifices. Even when work took me to different towns, the running shoes traveled with me. Different roads, different routes, different mornings. The commitment remained the same. A marathon is never just about race day. It is about the discipline nobody sees, the sacrifices nobody counts, and the quiet promises we make to ourselves and choose to honor. Today, I am not chasing perfection. I am celebrating preparation, endurance, good health, and the privilege of being able to run. To everyone lining up this morning, may the roads be kind, the legs remain strong, and the spirit carry us when the kilometers get tough. The training is done. The road awaits. 42.195 KM. Here we come. @brooksrunning #StanChartMarathon #NairobiMarathon #RunningTheLongRoad #MarathonDay
