Either way, you will come across as a bullshit fraud to anyone above a reasonable IQ.
Jordan Belfort finally explained what “Sell me this pen” really tests, and most salespeople fail it in 1 sentence. The moment they hear the line, they start pitching. The pen is great, it writes upside down, it’s the best value for the money. To Belfort, that’s the clearest sign someone doesn’t understand selling. The right answer doesn’t mention the pen at all, at least not at first. A fan in the audience asks Belfort to sell the pen. He jokes that no one has ever asked him that before, then explains what the test is really for: before you pitch anything, you ask questions. How long have you been in the market for a pen? What have you used before? Is it for business or personal? How much do you usually spend? Pitching without asking, Belfort says, tells the buyer you don’t give a shit about them. You’re just ramming the product down their throat. The questions also tell Belfort who to walk away from. If someone says they’re not looking for a pen, he says “Great, have a nice day” and moves on. To him, the biggest rookie mistake is trying to sell to everybody. Only then does Belfort pitch: “Based on what you said to me, this pen is perfect. Let me tell you why.” And the pen, he says, is just a stand-in for any product. Rookies sell the pen. Pros sell what you just told them. Be honest: would you have pitched the pen, or asked the first question?

I'll accept HELLRAISER II as canon as well, but holy crap it's like I blinked my eyes and *bang* the series is in space in the '90s.
Hellraiser is such a sad series because the first movie is insanely good and all the sequels are trash Just retcon everything but Hellraiser and do a movie about the cenobites being summoned by a poly sex cult in Silicon Valley after one of them solves the Lament configuration

Tom Skerritt *already* looked like my dad in M*A*S*H. Imagine how hard it felt for me to watch dad get swallowed up in the air vents by that damned huggy-bug.
I recently watched Alien & was struck by how young Tom Skerritt looked, compared to his later roles. Wondered if he ever actually looked young. I didn't realize he was already 46 when Alien came out. First film credit in 1962.

Side note we need to return to crudely drawn metal album covers
youtu.be/1mGobLlWVaY?is=B7Ap… kills me when a band has an absolutely killer riff in a song they then like immediately depart from and never return to

RIP Tom Skerritt. A great actor who had an uncanny ability to show up in the most iconic movies, even if it was with the briefest part. I did a wide-ranging talk with him a few years ago that's still one of my favorite interviews [Gift link]: vulture.com/2021/10/tom-sker…

Intelligence and wisdom are different stats for a reason.
I think it’s time to open ourselves up to the possibility that despite his ability to amass a fortune estimated at $2.3 billion, Vivek Ramaswamy’s brainpower far outpaces his wisdom and judgment.

This is the finest piece I have ever written for @NRO. It has nothing to do with politics whatsoever. Instead it is a tribute to the indescribable power of the written word - to move, and to command the conscience. My ode to "The Master and Margarita": nationalreview.com/magazine/…

It occurs to me that 100 years from now, if people are still watching James Cameron movies, it will be a critical commonplace that he peaked with his first major film.

The fact that so many self-proclaimed experts who make a living on polling and elections accepted fake results is really striking.
[extremely fake voice:] hello, New York Times? My name is Steve Pollingfirm. My wife and I run the Pollingfirm & Pollingfirm Polling Firm and we would like you to publish our new poll that shows Abdul El-Sayed up 75 points. Wait, you will? Seriously??

Unfortunately for the GOP, Ds have a pretty extensive history of freaking out regardless of how good or bad their prospects are.
Coordinated stories like this, coupled with the increasing freak out among Dems regarding Michigan and Maine, makes me wonder what Dems internals are telling them. I’ve been somewhat surprised as, in the last week, Dems have begun being more anxious than Republicans.

I think we can call a wrap on the idea of Vivek Ramaswamy as governor of Ohio, at this point. I don't regret a word of this long-overdue thrashing. The latest at @NRO: nationalreview.com/2026/10/v…

This is super-exciting. If you go to the RCP website, you'll see the "RCP + AI" button. Signing up (which you should do with whatever email you use for AI) will send you to instructions on how to add a connector that you can then use for research into RCP's poll database.
