~70% of Ashkenazi Jews vote Democrat while ~70% of Sephardic/Mizrahi Jews vote Republican. What’s your best theory?

Hell-fucking-yes!! I don't know how many times I said, "all Republicans had to do was not fuck up the economy and they could destroy the Dem party on gender ideology", and got R's assuring me nothing of the sort was happening. 🙄

This is a really good point, and something I've been observing between HK and Singapore. 🇭🇰🇸🇬
From conversations with my banker friends, HK tends to be more generous when it comes to capital and risk appetite. (sorry sg vcs haha)
I've spent quite some time immersed in Singapore's finance and fintech ecosystem, including engagements with GFTN and MAS, and now getting to see HK's ecosystem up close, I think both markets have very different approaches.
My observation is that HK is moving aggressively on tokenization, capital markets, and bringing traditional financial products onchain.
Singapore, on the other hand, seems more focused on stablecoins, regulatory frameworks, and building the institutional rails for TradFi and Web3 convergence.
One is pushing product and market adoption, while the other is building the regulatory and settlement infrastructure around it. Of course, there's plenty of overlap.
And I agree with your broader point. Greater regulatory clarity in the US could create a very interesting opening for licensed players in Asia, particularly those positioned to bridge institutional capital and digital asset markets.
I believe that HK and SG aren't necessarily competing to build the same financial hub. They're developing different pieces of what could become a much more interconnected financial system.
And that's what makes Asia particularly interesting to watch right now! 🌐

Realistically with the way Senate districts are gerrymandered, Rs are pretty much guaranteed to hold on to majority till the next redistricting so 2033 is the earliest that sh*t can hit the fan

Sergey Brin's political win in California cannot be understated. Guy double taps wealth taxes by beating back prop 40 and then outlawing them all together.
His political infrastructure now needs to storm the walls of the public sector union industrial complex destroying CA.

The presidential veto limits damage nationally - other than huge spending because who cares about the debt lol - but the states were hit hard. TX of course but also AZ, IA, GA, etc – just lots of bad policy coming. The silver lining is that 2028 will be a correction the other way—as long as the GOP nominates anyone other than Vance. But the Senate is lost until 2032, so I hope Thomas and Alito got on their treadmills this morning.

At what point do we stop focusing on who needs to pay more tax and start asking where all of our tax money is going.

Dear newly arrived dreamers, fresh faces, and young creatives,
You’ve just unpacked your bags in our weird little corner of Texas: Welcome.
You felt the magnetic pull of this city, and we are glad you are here. But as you settle into the heat and the rhythm of the Hill Country, there is a fundamental truth about this place you need to understand right away:
👉 You don’t move here to bring the rest of the world with you; you move here to let the spirit of Austin transform you like Grandmother on an ayahuasca journey in the middle of a rain forest.
Lately, there’s been a temptation to import the shiny, established cultural monuments of other cities and paste them over our own. Attempts to recreate things like the Met Gala, to dress up our local spaces in the borrowed glamour of New York or Los Angeles is just wrong.
Let’s be incredibly clear about this: trying to replicate things like the Met Gala here isn’t just missing the point, it simply isn’t weird enough to fit into our whole "Keep Austin Weird" ethos.
Why? Well for starters it’s derivative, and Austin has never been about copying what someone else has already perfected.
This city is not a blank canvas for you to project someone else's masterpiece onto. This is the place you come to connect with your inner innovator. It is a sanctuary where you are supposed to listen to the strange, beautiful whispers of your own creative spirit guides and make something completely, unapologetically original.
Do you want to throw an incredible, mind-bending costume party? Do it. Rent out a warehouse, string up the neon, build out a wild theme, and invite the whole town. We’d all love to come. But you don’t have to base it on a famous red carpet, an elite guest list, or a tired coastal tradition. You don't have to base it on anything other than the wild, boundless freedom of imagination that a city like Austin affords every single one of us.
Austin thrives on the grassroots, the gritty, the bizarre, and the brilliant ideas born on the back of a napkin at a late-night taco stand on the East side.
The magic of this town isn't in how well we can mimic the exclusive gatherings and events of the East or West Coast. It’s in our ability to build our own cultural gravity from the ground up, inviting everyone to participate in the spectacle.
So, unpack your bags, but leave your preconceived notions of what a "cultural event" looks like in whatever city you abandons to be here. Dive into the weirdness. Trust your own strangeness. We don’t need another Met Gala. We need whatever incredible, entirely original thing is currently hiding inside your imagination.
Welcome home. Now go make something weird.

Agree that the value in bio is moving down the stack, which will cause an explosion at the application layer (drugs, devices, diagnostics).
We need to catalyze more startups that are full stack companies (not just holding companies for an asset or two) because legacy pharma doesn’t know how to play the new game.
My theory is biotech is about to turn into a national security thing and the west doesn't really get a vote
Beijing just floated blocking foreign buyouts of china's cell and gene therapy and siRNA platforms
And what's interesting is what they're NOT blocking. Licensing individual drugs is still totally fine
So you can sell the west a medicine, just not the platform that makes the next 100 of them
And the west has been buying like crazy lol.
Foreign deals for chinese biotech assets are at $120B through august, up 36%
Astrazeneca's $1B gracell deal, that CAR-T platform, probably doesn't happen under this draft
Same update hits AI tech too btw
we spent years fighting over who gets the chips.
Feels like the next fight is over who owns the platforms that spit out the next generation of medicines
Once biology is programmable it's not really a healthcare business anymore, it's infrastructure
Still just a draft tho, comments open till nov 15
bio/acc.
