And as a second point: there are way too many people involved in Democratic Party politics whose business model/self-worth rely on Democrats losing or being out of power

The GOP shouldn't be counting on a poll miss to win the Senate (though it's possible!).
Dems have actually been slightly more likely to outperform the polls in close Senate races since 1998.
Same in 2018 (Trump's 1st midterm) & Dems outperformed in all 2022 close races.

If you're a single-issue gas price voter, you should probably spend like 5 minutes looking up how oil prices work. You'd learn that the US president has very little impact on them unless they do something crazy like shut down a pathway for a quarter of the world's oil.
