Insightful
There’s plenty to criticize about the US healthcare system.
But using life expectancy to criticize it is dumb.
It is one of the worst healthcare metrics ever created.
Life expectancy is mostly a lifestyle metric. Not a medical metric.
It’s almost entirely driven by lifestyle choices: violent crime, car accidents, suicide, drugs, metabolic disease from poor diet and lack of exercise.
In all of these, the United States is an outlier. And none of them reflect hospital or physician performance. No national insurance scheme fixes fentanyl or violent crime or 70 percent of the population being metabolically unhealthy.
If you want to measure the healthcare system, you look at outcomes the healthcare system actually controls.
Cancer survival. Heart attack survival. Stroke care. Trauma care. ICU mortality. Complex surgery outcomes.
On those measures, the United States is at or near the top once you adjust for baseline health. That is what a high performing medical system looks like.
Now to maternal mortality. Another activist favorite.
They love waving around these numbers because they sound dramatic, but the data behind them are a mess.
The U.S. “increase” in maternal mortality was driven by bad data collection. The pregnancy checkbox on death certificates was mis-marked so often that audits in Texas, Colorado, and Georgia found false maternal deaths all over the place. As many as half of the reported maternal deaths were misclassified.
We also count “maternal” deaths no one else counts. Homicides. Suicides. Drug overdoses. Car crashes. Anything within a year of delivery. So the comparisons are meaningless.
When states actually perform chart reviews, only a small fraction of maternal deaths are related to obstetric care. Again, lifestyle and social pathology drive the numbers. Not the quality of physicians.
Infant mortality comparisons have similar problems. Different countries draw the line on viability at different gestational ages. The United States attempts aggressive resuscitation at extremely early gestational ages that many European countries classify as stillbirths. If you resuscitate more fragile infants, you will by definition record more infant deaths.
So if we are going to do international comparisons, they need to be honest.
Most of the scary statistics activists use are distorted by demographics, social determinants, violent deaths, substance use, and definitional differences.
When you strip out the noise and measure what healthcare systems actually control, the U.S. system performs extremely well. Our problem is not medical quality. It is the burden of obesity, addiction, violence, and chronic disease that society keeps handing to the medical system to fix.
And Medicare for All does not fix any of that.
It just centralizes power. It puts one political appointee in charge of every medical decision in the country. It amplifies every mistake and every bias at national scale. It replaces physician and patient autonomy with bureaucratic control.
If you want better outcomes, you do not centralize everything in Washington. You do not hand the entire healthcare system to HHS. You give patients control. You allow physicians to practice medicine. You let competition work.
But pretending those numbers are a referendum on the quality of American medicine is dishonest. And pretending Medicare for All solves them is pure fantasy

I was excited to read this submission to @Sensible__Med from @Wil_Ward_ on anecdote not being data.
Then I got even more excited because it used the wearable cardiac defibrillator and VEST trial as an example.
Superb. Superb. Please do read

📊 The Qwan Brief ~ Closing Bell 🔔
💬 “Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want now.” — Abraham Lincoln
🔹 Performance Snapshot
$PLTY+1.58% Clear strength; steady reversal follow-through, best chart recovery of the group.
$KYLD+0.97% Quiet resilience; tracking beta cleanly, 30–35 % yield thesis intact.
$WPAY+0.12% ~ Essentially flat; Roundhill structure still works well to the upside.
$NVII+0.13% Minimal change;
IV compression visible, neutral for income capture.
$SMCY −1.29% ~ Cont’ drift after bad earnings and forward projections; nothing structural.
$TSII −3.26 % ~ Weakest leg; pure TSLA-volatility drag, mechanics intact.
🧭 Interpretation
• VIX ≈ 19.2 (-0.3 on the day) → volatility compression confirmed ~ exactly the setup needed before any new deployment.
• Portfolio delta: near-neutral again; margin efficiency restored.
• Weekly tone: early-week selloff punished tech overlays, but Thursday/Friday brought yield-oriented buying. Capital-flatness target re-secured.
⚙️ Strategic Guidance
1️⃣ No weekend moves ~ liquidity thin and headlines random.
2️⃣ Next re-eval Monday pre-market only if VIX < 18.8 and NVDA/TSLA IV ↓ ≥ 10 %.
3️⃣ Redeploy trigger: PLTY > $58.25 with NVDA > $31 → confirms buyers reclaiming call-premium appetite.
4️⃣ Maintain ≈ 20 % margin until next volatility contraction window; capital integrity first.
⚖️ After the Bell | Friday Wrap-Up
This week tested patience more than profit.
Markets bled early, then healed quietly into the close ~ a reminder that down and flat periods can still be a win when your business model is income.
No panic/chase DCA buys, no forced sells. Stayed on mission: protect capital, let yield do the work.⚖️

Tesla #FSD v13 was the final nail in the coffin. Hopefully will collaborate wih $TSLA. No need to reinvent a very expensive nigh impossible wheel.
BREAKING: General Motors has announced that they have halted funding of its Robotaxi development by Cruise and exiting the Robotaxi business.
"GM plans to realign its autonomous driving strategy and prioritize development of advanced driver assistance systems on a path to fully autonomous personal vehicles; GM will no longer fund Cruise’s robotaxi development work given the considerable time and resources that would be needed to scale the business, along with an increasingly competitive robotaxi market."

It came to me like a well trained dog.
Tesla FSD V.13 has moved to the next level. My 81 yo mother wants to trade her Jeep Cherokee SUV in on a Model Y and use FSD to help maintain her independence. She drives well but worries about response time and visual acuity. #FSD #Tesla $TSLA
Tesla FSD 13.2 vs Waymo!
I had FSD and Waymo do the same drive — same start point, same end point. Both arrived with 0 interventions but the Tesla had fewer awkward moments and arrived in 15m40s while the Waymo took 43 minutes — nearly 3x longer.

Wow. Is this an alternate universe New York?
HOLY SH*T!
NYC Mayor Eric Adams just dared the left to "cancel" him over working with Border Czar Tom Homan and Trump.
"Cancel me because I'm going to protect the people of this city."
He says illegals are "committing crimes, robberies, sh*oting at police, r*ping innocent people."
