I see indie animation discourse has reached the 90s comic discussions about creators not being good writers and only focus on art.

I understand this take to an extent but I also am careful promoting it because after doing the research trying to sum up decades of culture changes and business decisions to just the code doesn't show the full history and extent of what happened and why.
hot take: if the comics code hadn’t been created, superheroes wouldn’t have dominated the industry. the rules of the code made superheroes uniquely fit to survive. rules like “In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds”

Like keep in mind War comics were a thing and were not banned by the code so WHY did they go away? They were darker and had commentary too? Or westerns? They have their own reasons outside of the code being created and show how much America was changing decade to decade.

One of the reasons I try to be careful is that MANY horror comics will often be LIKE EC COMICS DIED AND THAT WAS THE END but in the 60's Creepy Magazine and Warren would be created and keep horror comics trucking over the decades. I'm not sure if many people know it existed.

For me a couple things Citizen Kane because I was so familiar with the parodies and references before I saw it in high school, Mad magazine because EVERY comic parody drew from them, and Twilight zone
No joke I had this experience watching an adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express. I was like "huh, this solution seems kinda cliche..." then I remembered that it's literally an Agatha Christie adaptation, where so many murder mystery cliches come from.

Lestat is definitely there, I would say the vampire from the various let the right one, and maybe Barnes’s colins from dark shadows

When I was a kid, this was my Luke Skywalker figure, and I HAD NO IDEA, that Star Wars fans were going nuts over these toys trying to buy up cases for collector value, and then when everyone had them and the market fucking crashed and now these toys are hated
I think sometimes people over react to this stuff and think THEY HATE THE FANBASE, but to the creators who were probably nerds in the trenches themselves for various things, this is the them venting about Pokemon scalpers who punched out a kid to get packs.

Myself I kind of like the Novelty of having BUFF Luke Skywalker as a reaction to what American toys are popular, like the He-man muscles never left us, and you could see it even in toys like Power Rangers.

you have to be a real Bronze Age head to get it.......
This is the only Luke Cage comic I feel comes close to being art be in conversations with major books but i completely understand people who don’t vibe with it.

I would not but if I had too, and wanted to be really fucked up the robot kept him alive and transferred his mind into a small doll body, forcing him to survive on his own and now this "doll man" is not sure if he wants his mom to find out.

Keep in mind these were guys who probably were dealing with various forms of the 90's comic speculator boom in comics, trading cards or the like, they could not imagine how MUCH worse it would get with people, or what the people are actually like but it was not good.

I could see this being conceptually interesting but GOD the Human being transformer thing would have opened up way too many questions and probably would HAVE been ignored going forward. Not even new media touch the idea that Cybertron was organic.
The original plan for the ending of Beast Machines. (1999)

One day, I will discuss this comic. It's very, very good and extremely problematic

I totally get it but like any weird pop culture phenomenon I’m curious if only because it’s seems to be close to a western isekai or light novel thing. Want to get a feel myself
