people are mad at me for this, an outcome I could never have predicted and did not intentionally want, why would I want that
there’s like no Jewish comic book characters except for Spider-Man and Superman. those are the only ones I can think of

There really is no true rival American television cartoon to this huh. It' the greatest ever made and pro will stay that way for a very long time.
There's a commentary track that said something like "The Reason the show looked good was because Japan refused to cut corners on literally anything. They would air brush the frost on Mr. Freeze's helmet EVERY single frame. They went bankrupt right after"

... he adapts his visual storytelling to the material without losing his sense of motion, character, or personality. In each, the premise gets you to open the book, but Cannon is the reason people are enjoying the comic. (5/5)

There's a term in comic called the page-turner panel; the idea is that the last panel of every page should work to compel you to turn the page. With Operation: Iron Coffin, he does this in almost every panel, not just the last one on each page. (3/?)

Look at recently completed Operation: Iron Coffin. Tyrell's art (he colors himself) pulls you through the chaos of the story, and makes the brutality legible without being gory. The book is about Dracula vs. a train full of Nazis, afterall. (2/?)

One thing I appreciate about Tyrell Cannon is that his comics look like somebody who really likes comics made them. Not in the nostalgic, 2nd-hand nature... but in the sense that he understands how much you can do with a page, a pose, a cut, a ridiculous amount of motion. (1/?)

The Comics Code and its consequences was a disaster for the human race
hot take: if the comics code hadn’t been created, superheroes wouldn’t have dominated the industry. the rules of the code made superheroes uniquely fit to survive. rules like “In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds”

The consequences of the comics code are why US comics have gotten their ass beaten for 40 years, and has never been able to catch up culturally or infrastructurally

in fiction people who seek to be heroes are usually presented as sinister or naive but i have found that in real life you also sometimes meet a third sort where it’s just sad and uncomfortable to see someone so desperate to be admired which can be an interesting character too

the human mind isn’t meant to handle the kind of surreality we see on a daily basis. Just as one small example out of hundreds, a significant portion of the president’s closing arguments for the midterms seems to revolve around asses. It’s too absurd, the brain can’t process it.
