Is the psychedelic hype bubble about to burst? Might that be best for the field? In a new @JAMAPsych article w/ me, @jpotash1, & R. Griffiths, we argue for moving beyond overly negative AND positive extremes to embrace the actual evidence @JHPsychedelics jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

We asked how helpful these strategies were for coping. Among antidepressants, escitalopram (3.7 out of 5, n=7), citalopram (3.7, n=3), and fluoxetine (3.4, n=9) scored highest. The most-used supplements, NAC and acetyl-L-carnitine, averaged 2.7 and 2.6.

Important work by Dr. @SeanPGoldy et al. to understand the side effects of MDMA doi.org/10.1007/s00213-026-0…
‼️ New paper! MDMA "blue Mondays" & "suicide Tuesdays" are familiar phrases in recreational MDMA culture, describing low points in the days post-use. But do these aftereffects actually exist? Current research shows conflicting results. Thread👇

• Coping strategies: 30% had tried supplements (mostly NAC, acetyl-L-carnitine, magnesium), and interestingly 5% used antidepressants specifically to cope, hinting at preclinical findings on SSRIs mitigating MDMA-induced depletion of serotonin

🔬 As MDMA-assisted therapy keeps moving toward the clinic, understanding what happens post-treatment matters. So, we (@kelcy_audra, @ExistWell, & @sdpnayak) surveyed 497 US adults with MDMA experience to better understand the phenomenon. Some takeaways:

As psychedelic treatments approach potential FDA approval, psychiatrists need to be ready for patients’ questions. To help prepare them, Johns Hopkins, Yale, NYU, and Columbia developed a standardized psychedelic medicine curriculum for psychiatry trainees. The first multi-site evaluation of the course was just published in Academic Psychiatry. After the course: 💡 Confidence counseling patients about clinical research and legal care nearly doubled 🔬 Understanding of the limitations of current evidence rose sharply 📈 Knowledge quiz scores improved ⚖️ Trainees gained a more balanced, critically informed view of the evidence, without inflated enthusiasm for the field We’re continuing to develop educational and training programs for professionals across a range of fields, so stay tuned! doi.org/10.1007/s40596-026-0…

A comprehensive review of bioethical progress and need for further work on psychedelic research and potential clinical applications across screening, informed consent, dosing, follow-up, & more. Work led by @Katherine_Chg w/ @eddietalksdrugs and me. Check out the thread and link:
A growing body of bioethical work has examined ethical issues related to the use of psychedelics in clinical research. With @eddietalksdrugs and @ExistWell, we try to take stock in our state-of-the-field review, published in JME Practical Bioethics.

We organize the literature here by trial stage (e.g. screening, informed consent, dosing, follow-up), in addition to identifying cross-cutting concerns.
