ALT Four small Gypsophila plants. Two have pink flowers and two have white flowers. This is a small bushy type.

ALT I really love my Delta Yellow pansies! Big, bright yellow flowers.

ALT Two young purple sage plants coming on nicely. I grew them from cuttings that I took in spring. Behind them is Pseudowintera colorata 'Red Leopard', a native cultivar released by Blue Mountain Nurseries in Tapanui.

ALT Nigel enlarging the long garden bed. We're constantly picking up 'stuff'. The plants in my other three photos are all in this shot (the purple sage are above the stony patch). The grassy field next door isn't ours; it's grazed by sheep from time-to-time.

ALT Pink Godetia flowers in the middle, blue cornflowers either side, and celery flowering profusely behind the other flowers. The celery has lots of green stems supporting lots of umbels of small white flowers.

ALT The lovage is reaching for the sky! Large, dense plant with green foliage and very tall flower stems. They support umbels of small yellow flowers.

ALT Bright lichen - orange and yellow - on a dark rock surface. The overall shape is round with the lichen growing in concentric circles and having an appearance (to me) of a pretty flower graphic, having the form of a double rose or a carnation. Each circle has orange on the inner side and yellow on the outer edge.

ALT Single Verbascum plant on a steep rocky bank with four flowers at the base of the spike facing the camera. They're a pure bright yellow and red-purple in the centre. It appears to be Verbascum virgatum (Wand Mullein).

ALT Two decorated pale-green plastic-wrapped silage bales in a grassy farm paddock with happy smiley faces and branches sticking out of the top of their heads for antlers! Hilly countryside setting with very bright sunshine and blue sky.

ALT Me in a blue jacket wandering through tall summer-flowering grasses and looking downwards. I'm on top of a bank above a tar-sealed two-lane road in a pastoral landscape of rolling hills.

ALT In this photo the rural landscape is in the distance. In the foreground are the road and its verge to the left, the steep bank with the plants I was wanting to see (they have white seed heads), and me standing above them and looking down.

ALT A closer view of the plants unknown to us at that time but we now believe them to be Vittadinia gracilis. Common names: Woolly New Holland Daisy, Purple Fuzzweed. The flowers are very small purple daisy flowers (and we did see a few of them as well).

ALT A rural Santa made of two painted round hay bales stands beside a decorated Christmas tree with presents underneath. The setting is a flat farm paddock with irrigation sprinklers spraying streams of water behind the display. A distant hill range and light sky complete the picture.

ALT White penstemon flowers with pink tips. Massed blooms.

ALT Lily with beautiful rich red blooms and developing buds topping tall green stems. New buds are light-coloured, older buds are red.

ALT Rose 'Gladsome' with open, simple blooms that have wide pink outer margins and white centres. Stamens are creamy yellow. The plant is vigorous, spreading over a trellis and bearing many blooms.
