Calling @MKBHDās video āhateā is misguided and highlights the nearly insurmountable issue the Tesla community has with criticism.
There was plenty to criticize about that unveiling and I thought Marques did an incredible job.
He is becoming a great force pushing against the growing movement in tech and now automotive of over promising and under delivering.

I had some time to let the roadster sink in. Iāve watched a few in depth videos by TopGear and Hagerty and I have to say:
Iām kinda sad. In my opinion the SpaceX equipped car and the roadster shouldāve been two different things. The entire vehicle was engineered and designed around the CGT system which most buyers wonāt purchase. Every ānormalā roadster will be a stripped down version of a crazy track car.
I loved the clean, sporty vibe of the 2017 concept. I wish, we wouldāve gotten an updated 2+2 Roadster version of that and a SpaceX themed cyber roadster as a one more thing at the event

Sawyer went out of his way to misquote @MKBHD
He's talking about the rocket trim that's invite only. Yes.. 99.99999999% of people will never even have the opportunity to buy this car, regardless if they have the money or not.
Marquees is 100% correct. The coolest part of the demo, the feature(s) that wowed people, will not be available.
Marques Brownlee says Tesla will never deliver the Rocket version of their new Roadster:
āThereās no way you or I will be able to buy this car. We might as well ignore this becoming a real product. The base one, the fan car one, I can see that being possible. But at this point, I donāt even think it matters, because Tesla has proven to us that the Roadster is by far their least important product.ā
I think Marques will be proven wrong, on all fronts. They didnāt spend years developing it to just not make it. While this new Roadster still has plenty of development work to go, the 2017 Roadster was much more of a prototype than this new one IMO. Tesla wants to deliver for all the people that put down deposit money all those years ago, and I think they will.
Seeing a lot of head-scratching about how theyāre going to implement this monstrosity into a usable road package, and honestly, rightly so. But I have some thoughtsā¦
The thrusters: theyāre listed as not legal for road use, which makes obvious sense when you see them in action. But that doesnāt necessarily make them useless⦠the new Roadster is not the first road car to have features and functions that arenāt road legal (example: race mode in the McLaren P1). Theyāve mentioned smashing lap records at racetracks, so perhaps a DRS/boost function between corners? And with how smart their systems are in general, the car itself would likely prevent any use of them on public roads.
Pair that with the fansā downforce sinking it into the pavement, and this thing has the potential to destroy lap-time leaderboards all over the world. And considering the speeds in question, and perhaps its weight as well, the Roadster would be a great platform to evolve tire technology and material science in braking systems. The be-all and end-all for whatās possible on a road vehicle, and wherever else the lessons learned here may transfer to.
Fan cars are some of the most intense automotive exercises out there. Look up the McMurtry SpĆ©irling, T.50S, or the Brabham BT46 if youāre unfamiliar.
Not to mention what preventive measures they might take to protect the COPVs and mitigate any leaks, should they occur. We all know what happens when one burstsā¦
Now, about the car being able to control itself in the air and remain upside-down on a flat surface, I have no idea how they plan to make wider use of those capabilities. But knowing the engineers at Tesla, they usually find a way to make something work.
Just rambling and spitballing the thoughts running around the gray right now.

I'm loving the tech in the new roadster but how did we get from this to that? It would have been way more impressive to do all of what was shown with the original design imo š¤¦š¾āāļø

Knew shit was a wrap when the fucking SpaceX launch stream telemetry graphics came on screen š

Hot take:
Tesla should have kept this design, focused on delivering 620 miles of range, FSD, and a fantastic charging curve.
The new Roadster is awesome, it's just not practical.

Iām not sure what to think of the new design. Rear end looks brutal but the rest? šµāš«

We will make sure that itās legal ā at a minimum could be used to leapfrog golf carts in the Villages.

I understand that the social security conversation is political poison. But Iām not running for office so I donāt care about that. Taking huge chunks out of the paychecks of young working Americans in order to pay for the retirements of older Americans who have a net worth several times higher, all to prop up a system that everyone knows likely wonāt be there when those younger people are retirement age themselves, is morally abhorrent and economically insane. Everyone knows it, too, but weāre held hostage by elderly politicians who refuse to surrender power, and older voters who, as a group (with exceptions, obviously), simply donāt care all that much about the financial and cultural future their grandchildren will inherit.
