H.R. 713 — Resolution to Censure Ilhan Omar: Legislation that aimed to formally censure Ilhan Omar and remove her from the House Education and Workforce Committee and Budget Committee.
What’s more, Ilhan Omar served on the House Foreign Affairs Committee from January 2019 until February 2023, a committee with significant national security oversight responsibilities.
Specifically, while serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ilhan Omar served on the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations, on which she personally green-lit approximately $40 billion in aid to sub-Saharan Africa, with approximately $4.7 billion going to Somalia, Ilhan Omar’s home country.
