"When Carrick came into his press conference on Friday and spent five minutes effectively delivering a monologue about the club's history, the players who've played for it and the managers who've represented it, that was the end. "Because when you're having to convince players in your dressing room, wearing your badge, about the history, pride, personality, character, sacrifice and humility required to play for this football club, it's already too late. "You shouldn't have to explain those things to them in the first place. Don't sign them. "Don't sign a player for Manchester United if you have to explain how big the club is, what the expectations are and what's gone before. "And don't apologise for it either. It's not a pressure.
