We are pleased to share In Conversation with His Excellency @SikyongPTsering la on the 1st edition of our Trans Himalaya Journal on Tibet.
Hosted by our senior researcher @dundadul
In this wide-ranging interview, Sikyong Penpa Tsering outlines the @CTA_TibetdotNet priorities for the coming five years, focusing on resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict through the Middle Way Approach, strengthening Tibetan communities in exile, and modernising governance through technology and institutional reform. He discusses China’s policies in Tibet under Xi Jinping, warns of increasing assimilation, surveillance, and restrictions on Tibetan identity, religion, and language particularly under the pretext of China’s ‘Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress’. Sikyong Penpa Tsering la emphasises the importance of safeguarding the succession of the @DalaiLama from political interference and highlights Tibet’s growing strategic relevance as a source of Asia’s major rivers and a critical environmental region. He also reflects on India–China relations, Tibet’s role as a potential bridge between the two civilizations, the enduring importance of non-violence, and the need for greater international awareness, Tibetan unity, and youth leadership. Finally, he underscores the universal relevance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message of compassion, ethical leadership, and human values.
This interview was recorded on 8th June, 2026 at the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, New Delhi.

#Chinese #Communist Party is holding the Fifth Plenum of the 20th Central Committee in Beijing from #October 26 to October 29, 2026. Agenda includes political discipline within party ranks and advancing #anti-corruption drives as fifth plenum usually revolves around this issue.
We are pleased to announce the launch of the Inaugural edition of Trans Himalaya: Strategy, Culture and Change in Tibet and Asia’s Uplands, a new publication of the Foundation for Non-Violent Alternatives (FNVA), New Delhi.
Trans Himalaya is an independent, interdisciplinary research and policy journal examining the forces and transformations shaping Tibet and Asia’s upland regions. While anchored in the Himalayan–Tibetan continuum, it extends its focus to Inner and Central Asia, exploring the historical, political, cultural, environmental and strategic questions that shape the region.
The inaugural edition, titled “Tibet: Asia’s Heartland”, brings together contributions from scholars, diplomats, strategic analysts and other experts. It reflects our conviction that Tibet must be understood not in isolation, but in the context of the broader historical, cultural and geopolitical landscape of Asia. The journal also serves as a platform for regional voices, encouraging contributions from scholars, practitioners, and analysts across India, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Tibetan community, and international academic circles.
We deeply thank the authors, contributors and all those involved behind the scenes in realising this journal.
The journal is available in both print and digital format with a dedicated website where one can access the digital format. The website can be accessed from the following link:

🔖 Wonderful to see His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s portrait featured in the "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦: 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬," President George W. Bush’s powerful new collection of stories and oil paintings spotlighting courageous individuals and their struggles for freedom.
The new book, which will be published by Crown, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, is due to be released on M̳a̳r̳c̳h̳ ̳9̳,̳ ̳2̳0̳2̳7̳. It includes two print editions: a jacketed hardcover edition and an oversized, deluxe edition signed by President Bush.
For Tibetans and friends of Tibet, this portrait is especially meaningful given the special and enduring relationship shared by the Dalai Lama and President Bush, including the historic 2007 Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring His Holiness. Deeply grateful that this special connection and His Holiness’s lifelong commitment to freedom, nonviolence, and human dignity is reflected in this new book.
