Burning forest wood is not 'low carbon', is a massive source of #airpollution in the UK, and contributes to the destruction of old growth forests.

Springfield, MA: biomass is back on the table. But burning wood emits more CO₂ than coal per unit of energy. This isn’t clean. It’s a loophole. PFPI says NO to false solutions. #StopBiomass #ClimateScience

THREAD: A few thoughts on today’s biomass (Drax) announcement by the gov.
Overall, clearly @Ed_Miliband & @energygovuk are not overly enthusiastic about wood pellets – on grounds of value for money & sustainability. So, a MUCH more limited role for Drax from 2027-2031.

Great news for our forests from the Netherlands!
Yesterday the following motion was adopted in the Dutch Parliament:
➜ DISCOURAGE the import of woody biomass from abroad
➜ NO more new subsidies for woody biomass from abroad
Good step in the right direction!

”Besides impoverishing biodiversity, clear-cutting also leads to a loss of carbon stored in both trees & soil.”
The large increase in emissions caused by this forest degradation creates a carbon debt that the harmful tree monocultures cannot repay in time

🚨Breaking 🚨
Vote on the final report of the law to #RestoreNature rejected with a 44:44 tie at @EP_Environment.
Today’s rejection of the ENVI report is an opportunity to adopt a more consistent and ambitious text in plenary on 12 July.
Today’s divide in the ENVI committee, where half of the MEPs voted in favour of the Nature Restoration Law, proves that lies, misinformation, and dirty tactics are fiercely resisted in this Parliament.
Now, it's time for MEPs in plenary to vote with unwavering conscience and responsibility, addressing the climate and biodiversity crises that threaten the very survival of our planet.
