In 1st 100 days, @LDoerkson said his govt will pull an expert panel together to better understand the state of the healthcare system & will work on reviving forestrry industry. Among his first tasks will be speaking with @MarkJCarney & @ABDanielleSmith to get Pacific Link working group moving. "Our resources are the strongest hand that British Columbia holds, and we will for sure play them."
Asked how he will reconcile differences in opinion within his caucus, @LDoerkson said he will work with all MLAs to bring "a very respectful caucus forward that will treat all British Columbians with dignity... and a new sense of hope to all British Columbians."
The new @Conservative_BC govt will bring in the Respect Local Democracy Act so no premier can again call a concurrent provincial election. @LDoerkson said he hasn't decided if they will hold a fall session, but first priority will be to raise the personal tax exemption to 32K, which will amount to about $1000/yr back.
Doerkson thanked @Dave_Eby again for the years he has given to public service and addressed "the British Columbians who voted for another party yesterday," saying, "I heard you. Starting today, I am your premier as much as anyone else's."
Asked about DRIPA, @LDoerkson said his govt will repeal it, likely in the spring legislation session. "It has not worked in this province, and frankly, it has caused more problems to date than than I think potentially anything else."
Asked his govt will deploy the auditor general to delve into BC's finances. @LDoerkson said they will use any means necessary to better understand the finances of the province.
.@LDoerkson said today interest payments are "choking the economy" & commits to an independent investigation into BC's finances. Said the $1B accounting error by the @bcndp has him "terrified" at what else they might discover.
The @Conservative_BC has won a majority govt, overturning @bcndp ridings across the province. This will resound as a cautionary snap election tale in PoliSci classes for years to come.

I'm just noticing that the BC NDP platform is titled "BC Strong" and the BC Conservative's is "Stronger BC."
Clearly there's room for another party to run on "Even Stronger BC" or "Strongest BC" or ....? #bcpoli

Replying to @MLInstitute
@MLInstitute's Dave Snow documents the rise of the intervention industry as part of our Court Party series on judicial reform. In short, the increase in the number of interveners has allowed superior courts to take on more clout, even though they have neither the competence nor the mandate to sift through the reams of arguments put forward—often by activist interest groups—as though they were legislatures.
It's very timely, as the @SCC_eng is soon set to release it's decision on a consequential case involving the use of the notwithstanding clause - the core element of the Charter that preserves parliamentary primacy and ensures legislatures can contest the court's interpretation of the meaning of rights.
"The Supreme Court should not mistake fifty factums for a democratic mandate to rewrite Canada’s constitutional bargain."
"Morton and Knopff once described Charter litigation as a way for interest groups to “constitutionalize policy preferences that could not easily be achieved through the legislative process.” In most Charter cases that means securing a preferred outcome in a discrete policy dispute."

Not sure what the @bcndp is talking about, saying @LDoerkson is avoiding the media. Chad Hipolito & i spent a whole day with him this week for a knockout story we're doing (stay tuned!!). Matthew Sweeney (and I) as Lorne arrives carrying his luggage. Photo by Chad.
