Must everything be copied? What troubles me isn't only the borrowing. It's what's being lost on both sides. Every culture has their own rich traditions and their own ways of leading a wedding ceremony. Each time you swap something out, you are erasing your culture with your own hands. From Gรจlรจ to รฌpรจlรฉ, abแบนฬ€bแบนฬ€, irรนkแบนฬ€rแบนฬ€, now Alรกga and รŒdแปฬ€bรกlแบนฬ€. Where does it really end? And instead of crediting the source, the next step is always co-ownership. โ€œWe call it this in our own language, you didnโ€™t invent MCโ€. In another generation, these wedding videos will be held up as proof by your children claiming youโ€™ve never been to Lagos. Putting this out now that Alรกga is a Yorรนbรก institution and practice. The Alรกga รŒdรบrรณ and Alรกga รŒjรณkรฒรณ guide the ceremony in our language, proverbs and protocol. It isn't a generic wedding MC role. We donโ€™t want to hear stories later. Thanks.

An Ika woman stood up and made her position clear: โ€œWE ARE IKAS! WE ARE NOT IBOS!โ€ Nigeria needs peace, mutual respect, and recognition of the identities of its many ethnic groups. Nobody should have to fight to preserve their own name, history, language, and cultural identity. When some people are busy claiming Yorubaland, others are arguing over the identity and heritage of the Ika people. This constant struggle over who belongs to whom only creates unnecessary tension and division. The Ika people have their own history, cultural identity, and traditions. Their identity deserves to be heard and respected, not dictated to them by outsiders. Nigeria is a multiethnic country, not the property of any single ethnic group. Whether Yoruba, Ika, Ibo, Edo, Urhobo, Itsekiri, or any other people, every community deserves the freedom to preserve its heritage and determine how it identifies itself. We cannot preach unity while disrespecting the identities of others. Unity must be built on mutual respect, not ethnic domination. Let the Ika people speak for the Ika people. Let the Yoruba speak for the Yoruba. Let every community's history be examined honestly, without forcing political or ethnic narratives onto others. Nigeria needs peace. Respect other people's lands, histories, and identities. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ
